It seems like everything is shrouded in mystery these days. Basic information is horded and dispensed piecemeal like it’s a gift from the gods. It’s so hard to be able to see the big picture. I used to feel like I knew what was going on and how things worked around here…. Now it’s just constantly shifting objectives, vague explanations, and expectations that aren’t clearly defined with no context or understanding why we’re doing things… It’s either intentional suppression or chaos and disorganization due to incompetent leadership. Maybe both?

How on earth does anyone work under these conditions. If you don't know what your teammates are doing, how are you supposed to work with them? TEAM means together. TEAM doesn't have the word I in it.
Duh, the whole company mentality now is to keep everything secret, which is the reason why employees have to rely on this website or the internet to know what is actually going on. Even when a news article is all over the internet, the company won’t address it on teamworks or by email. Obviously they think we are stupid and unimportant but come on, get your act together as the employees are really your life blood. But then for a bunch of NY short timers who make decisions only based on their bonus for current year and not long term good of employees and company, I guess that is their only way of thinking.
Sounds like you're describing "Agile".
For those not in tech, "Agile" is this shiny new flavor of the month management scheme that's obfuscated all activities behind overly restrictive permissions, added a mountain of red-tape, and added an entire extra class of management over everything, with tons of meetings. At the end of the day it's slowed everything down to a crawl at best.
It didn't used to be like this. They need to stick a fork in "Agile" and go back to what was working.
Working at other banks and with other industries, that transparency was strange to me. It’s not standard for most large companies.
OP is 100% correct. This is the way it's been at WF for years. It's definitely intentional. They want us to be willing mushrooms -- fed sh--e and kept in the dark. That way, we'll never figure out how corrupt the house of cards really is and how close it is to toppling Enron style.

In my Marketing group it’s pretty much always been like that.
The management team we’ve had for the last 5-6 years is extremely secretive, but I don’t recall any real transparency, ever.
Occasionally stabs at the pretense, yes, but actual sharing of information, never.
It's always been who you are, what you do and which group. And that's the same for all companies.
Yes. There are whole teams running in parallel and don't know it.
The old way teams have a future of their whole team being cut once their replacement team operating in a new way is ready.
No learning new skills for the old team and adjusting to the new way. Just lay them off.
Management doesn't want you to know because they still need you for now.

I agree with OP 100%. For me, the secrecy and hoarding of information started with Agile. The various products and programs put up walls and only share information when they're forced to.
Yes, 100%. It’s definitely intentional and has also made it impossible to do certain jobs efficiently or effectively. More transparency means more opportunity for people to raise their hand and despite their claims, they don't really want you to do that. They only want to give the illusion that they do.
Was the company ever transparent?? I don't remember that being a thing at WF.
