Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

stop the bootlicking and finger crossing and start working on your resume

Its crazy to hear some of my old coworkers are delusional as he-l thinking they are safe since they didn't get cut in the last layoffs. Some of them are even working for free after their shifts to clean up the cr-p they didn't get to during their shift so they won't get hammered by management.

I told them before I left, you need to spend that time working on your resume and getting as many certifications on the company dime as you can. They are going to cut you as soon as you can and all that free work you did would be for nothing.

Lastly, you didn't get cut because apparently you weren't a career top performer so you weren't making the big bucks in your respective career band. With the money the top performers were making in my group, they could hire 2-3 contractors to fill the seats

It's doesn't where YOU think you are on the ladder - it matter's where your boss thinks you are. Assume that you are not safe, @OP+1kU3FS4f is RIGHT - get the certs on the company dime while you can, and for crying out loud - UPDATE YOUR RESUME, both VZ and personal!!!

You could be the top performer is every way, and bo-m!, they cut the entire department. It happened in Q4, it can happen anytime, anywhere!

They don’t cut from the bottom of the barrel. Depending on your job, they cut geographically and or pay based. It’s all handled by a third party and HR

You have to nudt accept at VZ or any company one day they’ll just tap your shoulder and say goodbye. Don’t live paycheck to paycheck, keep your resume updated, netwrok with people or something, don’t worry about being riffed because it is 100% out of your control.

Even funnier, they will come crawling back as contractors after getting the boot. What a sad, sad life they live.

Sometimes I hate being a V-teamer. Always looking over my shoulder for a pink slip.

@OP+1kU3FS4f, that used to be the case when managers ranked their direct reports for RIFs. Now I believe it all comes from HR who has no idea what you do.

@OP+1kU3FS4f Wrong. They always cut from the bottom of the barrel first. Those still here are the better performers.
