Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

When PG said AMD is now in the rear view mirror, and never again in the windshield, I think he meant the opposite

Intel is now in AMD's rear view mirror, and NEVER AGAIN will they be in the windshield.

RIP to this once great company, now nothing more than a "me-too" wannabe has-been.

In earnings calls, he would say how Intel is doing badly because the whole market is doing badly... then came AMD's quarterly results yesterday and put that argument in the trash where it belongs. Pat won't last 2023 and likely not the summer. Intel will be split up because it is worth more in pieces than as an IDM and I am pretty sure no one will want Pat to be the one seeing the partitioning through given how much incompetence he has demonstrated to date. If he was serving aces every time, he would still have a less than 50% chance of success. With his bonehead mistakes in the short time he has been a CEO, he has ensured that there is 0% chance of success.

Pat must have been sitting backwards in the driver's seat when he said that. This explains a lot!

Intel promotes employees that succeed in internal politics while the AMD CEO is an MIT Ph.D.

Who could have possibly predicted they would be doing better?

All intel employees should send rearview video clip to Pat.

@nmh+1kY2RCUY Anyone can claim manufacturing ready and blah blah blah.

To make a fab and technology pay after billions in RD and tens of billions in manufacturing you need huge scale to recuperate the investment.

Intels strategy of increased RD and huge fab manufacturing, even with government subsidies Intel will likely take a decade or more to recuperate the investment and that assume they get to scale and get real volume foundry customers. 5 nodes in four years is really two modes one for their internal team and a second for external, double speak but still a stretch on believable strategy.

Remember their leading edge fabs will compete against Samsung and TSMC who have larger volume and larger customer base to assure they keep fabs full and amortize the investment.

This is a Hail Mary and hope the defense all fall down and Intel runs free with no opposition, pure prayer and low probability of success.

Exactly. If you keep chest thumping for years, arrogance and complacency set in. This is exactly how Intel conducted itself over the years under several leaders. The culture grows accordingly. Rearview mirrors need to be checked even if you have all the technological advances are in place. Now things are in plain sight sideways and ahead.
