PTO in place of RTO

For starters, I can see the POV of those who wish to work remote and those who enjoy going to the office. I support both as long as it’s for someone who is truly working. Like many of you my life is more complicated now after Covid lock downs and so forth. A lot has changed. But bottom line is I can’t afford to be laid off. Some people can but I cannot because I have complicated obligations.

My question to anyone who has insight is, if I choose to take half a day of PTO ( 4hrs not 8 hrs) every week can I essentially RTO 2 days even with only 1/2 day PTO? I am willing to give up my PTO to commute only 2x to save my job. Sad but I will do the trade off. Don’t go, just risk it is not an option for me. Thank you for any helpful information.

I work at home in the morning from home due to offshore early meetings. Then 4 hours in office. They are crazy if they think I am going to get into the office by 5:30 am and attend back to back offshore meetings, and then leave at 5. Yeah, right.

My manager told me that they put a percentage to your time in the office. Eight hours per day is expected and if not, it counts against you. The swipes count.

That's all PTO is for anymore. It's not to relax, enjoy life, and maintain any semblance of work/life balance. No, it's just for avoiding stupid blanket policies coming down from Hudson Yards.

HR- if you do actually read this (then play d-mb about it) then please start tallying up the employee concerns you see us constantly bringing up. We know you see it. Do something now. We are literally miserable and won’t forget this.

I legit had to take a half day once and asked my boss. He said it was fine to count it as a full in-office day but I don’t know if that’s actually how it’s measured, or him just knowing getting only 2 days officially that week wasn’t going to be a big deal. Chances are if you they noticed you doing that every week they’d eventually tell you to stop and maybe make a policy preventing that.

Yes, and I agree HR will formulate a policy.

They review this site often (hi!) and they will create necessary policies from questions or comments. (And they really do watch and report out to some LoBs)

Must be LOB dependent. Mine said there is no PTO minimum.

I had the same idea as OP too. I foresee using PTO spread out across more weeks than whole weeks at a time to avoid RTO.
