Ford’s “Canopy” receives ZERO recognition at CES

A competitor, CarMate USA got the innovation award for their in vehicle camera.
Ring CarCam got press mentions about their product and $6 monthly subscription.
Ford Canopy got zilch.
When do FLV and CM get their PEPs?

CES 2023 INNOVATION AWARD PRODUCT
d'Action 360D DC3600R
By Car Mate USA, Inc.

DC3600RA is a dash cam capable of recording high-resolution front, rear, and 360-degree footage with only two cameras. Although the product may look like an ordinary 360-degree camera with a rear camera, DC3600RA has unique "Dual-Recording" image processing technology in the 360-degree lens. It automatically crops the front-facing footage from 360-degree footage. As a result, it saves both 2 data in the best resolution suitable for each footage. In addition, the DC3600RA achieves license plate recognition, a known weakness of ordinary 360-degree cameras, with reasonable and inexpensive software technology instead of expensive hardware, making it more affordable.

Lack of customers will break this service.
Ford is trying to be a Jack of all trades and a master of none!

Last time there was a press release mentioning anything FLV did it was the one announcing he was hired at Ford. Since then, crickets. He should be shown the door right alongside Farley.

Blue Cruise is a tremendous success story. Canopy has involved some of the same team and I have no doubts will be just as successful or even surpass Blue Cruise.

A trade show's 2 cents worth will not dictate anything success level.

Canopy’s partner, ADT, which can generate revenue from any building in the world, has revenue of only $5 billion annually, with negative earnings the most recent years. Their market cap is only $8 billion. Chose a weak company to partner with.

Every subscription Ford tries had already been done better by others. Except Blue cruise, but do you ever to trust a system like that to a company with the recalls Ford has been getting? Yikes!

Canopy will be too late to market to be successful. With at least three major competitors already in the market, the Ford product might be sold to people buying Ford vehicles, but unlikely to be sold to any other vehicle purchaser. Do the math, at $6 to $10 per month going rate, even if Ford sells Canopy to every one who buys a Ford vehicle this year, maybe 1,800,000, total annual revenue might be $180 million, nowhere close to the billions they are claiming they will do, and I’m pretty sure not every buyer will want to pay the monthly fee.

Wishful thinking will not make it happen.

I advise you at least give Canopy a chance to get in the market to gain its place in this subscription space. Canopy has some great features and very reputable companies behind it.

Customers will make or break this service, not a bought and paid for tech event.

You missed the Garmin camera CES publicity, $10 month subscription. The numbers on CM’s spreadsheets justifying their job exceed that exponentially.

Finally, Garmin came to CES with a dash cam that can do all sorts of fun things…for a price.
The $400 Dash Cam Live comes with LTE connectivity, which requires a $10/mo fee to utilize. If you do choose to pay the fee, you get the ability to remotely view a 140-degree, 1440p feed from the dash cam no matter where you are. If someone tries some funny business with your car while you’re inside a restaurant, for example, you’ll be able to see it and react accordingly.

The always-on camera will also auto-save incident clips with time and location tags, and it’s voice command-enabled so you can tell it what to do while your hands are on the wheel. It’s certainly not a color-changing car or a portable air purifier, but one could argue the Dash Cam Live is the most actually useful car tech shown off at CES.
