Six more weeks until Christmas

Six weeks from today many of us will be celebrating the announcement of two years pay to leave with benefits plus pension and 401K.

@Retiring Soon- My point was to show that the unions believing they get 104 weeks of pay for no work are no different than the C-Level Managers they rail against on this message board, constantly. Two sides of the same coin.

Let's also make some distinctions. If you collect that much money, but sit on your bu-t, let's consider the ramifications: 1. A capable person with functioning knowledge is removed from the work pool, making what they provide unusable. This makes service availability worse. 2. If you are collecting money for nothing, you are devaluing the currency. Inflation is as bad as it is, because the worth of a dollar is 7% less than what it was two years ago. Why? Because trillions were injected into the economy that went to people who produced nothing.

If you leave AT&T with your 104 and then invest it or spend it on something that is productive (an asset or a new business), more power to you. The fact is that most of these people will not, and they will sit on their butts and do nothing. With that in mind, maybe I will open a new portfolio, strictly with Alcohol, Cigarette, and Healthcare stocks.

Perhaps, there are many other titles other than technicians, but how many of those titles have over 31 years of service and how many are covered by an agreement that pays 104 weeks of severance...Not many anymore! You're a completely delusional and poorly misguided soul! I really feel sorry for you cuz you'll be the first and only person disappointed when March 15th comes and goes without incident!

There are so many workers other than technicians on the CWA/Leg T contract who are totally ready for the package per the contract on March 15th.

To the person who dislikes unions and "lazy people": Every normal human would prefer to have more money rather than less money and most everyone would like to work less versus more, whether you're a laborer or pro football player, and perhaps you are merely showing your jealousy and/or envy for those of us who'll soon be getting the two year paid vacation and then our pensions and 401K distributions along with benefits. If you were handed a winning lottery ticket, would you not cash it in?

Yes, the unions are certainly corrupt and promote a very poor work ethic because they have been in bed with organized crime since their inception, that's a fact! However, the company agrees with and signs these union contracts and all I do is provide the service for a fair wage provided by the company. Don't shoot the messenger, it's not the employees faults!

If you think that receiving 104 weeks (2 years) of pay is valid, because you are being laid off, you have more in common with a C-Suite than you care to admit. Your 104 weeks of pay is nothing more than a working man's golden parachute. It is the epitome of everything I dislike about unions. You pretend to hate the C-Levels, but you act just like them. In the meantime, I can't get a person out to my house to work on anything, because healthy, working-class people sit on their rear ends and don't do anything productive. Instead of welfare, you collect workfare. Morally, you are no better than a welfare brood mare. I've seen this very attitude from my union brother-in-law, who has probably worked 3 months in the last 5 years, because his union pays him to do nothing. Its pathetic and you are part of the problem.

Just how many bargained for technicians are there with more than 31 years of service in this company that would be entitled to 104 weeks of severance? There really can't be that many legacy T employees left under those contracts!

Nothing more than very weak speculation at best! Just what I thought, nothing more! Too bad all these rumor mongers can't back their rumors with some concrete facts because they wouldn't be just rumors! There's nothing to see here anymore, just keep moving and forget what you read!

There could very well be a VTP but it will be nothing more then the agreed upon severances pay of 104 weeks for anyone over 31 years service

If you're so confident that T will be offering the bargained for old timers such a deal, then you must have a very credible source behind your rumor! This was either made up, leaked by T management or leaked by a union official, which is it? Give me something to hang my hat on?

I'm not the OP but she was right saying the negative writers on this forum have no class or clue. I agree with her that many of our Leg T jobs are being automated and/or moved to cheaper labor so many of us are likely slated to be laid off, thus receiving the termination package per our contract which is 104 weeks pay for those of us with over 31 years service. The negative and rude people on here do not have a clue what they're talking about however they can read about layoffs here on March 15th and hear about many of us joyously retiring with two years pay, our pensions, 401K, and benefits - thanks to our CWA negotiated labor agreement.

Close to March 15th. Heaven's Gate on March 26, 1997; deputies of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department discovered the bodies of the 39 active members of the group. They had participated in a mass su----e. The world was ending prediction. Just 26 years later, AT&T offers 5/5/5 or 2/2/2 to end the world for employees.

To "Retiring Soon"; stick it out to get the extra 2 or 5. Post again in 2027

You'll be waiting a very long time, most likely you'll retire long before that kind of offer ever comes to fruition!

Why not sell the business unit off and save the 104 weeks pay?

by

Yes, it would be more realistic for AT&T to give technicians other types work rather than give them 104 weeks of severance pay just to get rid of them. Sure, T would save around $19k for annual benefits package, but T still has to come up with the annual salary for 2 years which amounts to roughtly, $188,864. If they offer this to 50 techs, do the math, it's a lot of money T is shelling out!

Any technician that falls under that contract has to have 31 years or more of service to qualify for 104 weeks of severance pay. H3LL YES, I would take the severance if it was offered to me! I'm a realist and know that this is just someone's number 1 wish list item!

How many years do you have to have to get 104 weeks? It would be cheaper to just reassign you to other work and hope you’ll retire.

Your post is nonsense and purely conjecture on your part! All you're doing is putting a scenario in place that makes sense to you and expect ATT to see things your way. I'm a legacy T technician with 40 years of service and would like nothing more than this to happen, but why would T pay most of us bargained for employees to leave when we'll be out the door anyway within the next couple of years or so? Besides, I'm in a business unit that is growing the business and not reducing the head count.

This is the OPs 1st time writing on this forum and those negative writers apparently don't have any class nor clue. I'm simply saying there likely will be announcements 3/15 and many workers will be happy with the termination package per contract. Most likely, there will unfortunately not be many VTP offers, however many of us expect to get the ITP, which is virtually the same as the VTP. It seems however that some people cannot be happy for others who'll be receiving 104 weeks pay for retiring. Of course there are some workers who don't want to be laid off. I'm truly sorry for them. Many of us ready to retire are obviously excited to get the 2 years pay. We specifically see how we are being replaced by automation and lower cost labor and are ready and willing to be laid off. And most of us will keep working until there is a package.
