Because the headcount is part of the Annual Operating Plan. Remove that headcount, you reduce that Opex from your budget.

I heard from my manager today that layoff emails are going out on Feb 6th. 1 rep on my team is getting cut. I'm field sales in west US and team is around 10 reps. The rep getting cut is a good guy and doesn't know yet.
I don't know what that means as far as total cuts from the company I can only speak to the team I am on - I do hope that layoffs are not too bad and that those affected will find work quickly.
I have been at Dell for 3 years. Dell has treated me well - but it's sad for me to see good people impacted. Nevertheless it's part of business.
I wouldn't post here to make anything up. I'm posing because I do think it's important for people to know that WFR emails are being sent on the 6th so that they can be somewhat prepared.
In general I hope the negativity on this site gets toned down - something about people posting anonymously brings out the worst in people. Hopefully those who are impacted will have our compassion and that they can find another job quickly.
