Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

“Business Execution” roles

What do these people do? I see this title on people all over but i can’t point to a single workflow being re-engineered. I also can’t find any deliverables that they are touching. These dream jobs?

They are the ones who CONSTANTLY ask mind numbing questions about what each group does. They monitor the badge swipes to the minute. Everything is a fire drill. When they ask for spreadsheets you are expected to drop whatever you are doing and get what they need. Mind boggling as to why there positions are necessary.

Why is this an inappropriate title? As a business execution director, is it not my job to strangle my partners daily.

This role is almost as useless as the risk management roles.

I too was moved into this job family. In my case it was due to a removal of Operational Risk titles for anyone not on Derek Flowers' enterprise operational risk team - even if you were hired to manage operational risk within a line of business. Since then I have been moved (without anyone actually telling me) to the equally nonsensical Accountability Specialist title. Makes me sound like a sort of admin - vs a risk professional with years of experience.

I have such a job title as do many in my group ever since the job families were drastically changed over a year ago. The work we do (IRM/2nd line) in no way warrants job titles in that family. We never heard how the decision was made or who exactly was responsible for it. It was fairly quickly recognized that the new titles didn’t make sense, and our leadership worked with whoever has the authority to fix it. Word is they finally agreed to move those impacted to appropriate job titles (Ironically, these would be nearly identical to our previous titles), but that was months ago and NOTHING has happened. But I and others finally figured that the lengthy delay made some sorta sense as they were surely waiting for the annual performance cycle to wrap up as that’s when most job changes go into effect. Nope, same old ridiculously inappropriate job titles.

From where I sit, this fiasco beautifully demonstrates WF’s pathetic dysfunction. One group is able to easily enact a significant change without properly involving impacted stakeholders yet when it’s revealed to be a horrendous mistake, heaven and earth must be moved to correct it.

Worthless intermediaries between project owners and the people actually doing the work. Just my experience…

Strategic execution… lead teams to get things done. Teams they are leading include SMEs, project management, etc. that are required to fully execute on something. I suspect this role is used very differently across businesses which is unfortunate.

They are PowerPoint warriors.

Most of these roles are glorified secretarial roles. Look at the job postings. There are few, if any, articulable skills needed.

Most spend most of their time not doing anything. When they are doing something, it's just emailing other people for spreadsheets, etc. that they'll pass off as their own.

On one hand, these roles are easy and require nothing. On the other hand, they'll be the first roles jettisoned when layoffs pick up again.

Do you want to be in the job market after not having any real job skills for 10+ years? Because no other employer is going to pay anywhere near the salary (let alone bonus) as Wells does.

In our world, these are the get “stuff” done people. Individual contributors who are executing plans, campaigns, and initiatives. It’s more of a catch all title and the accountabilities vary between LoB.

It's a new generic title to cover a lot of the staff roles. What they do is dependent on the team.
