Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Is Platform Engineer a great role at IBM?

Should I apply for it?
If I join, would Arvind sc--w me one day?
I need opinion.

That job is in Singapore - one of the areas getting most of the work those re-deployed were doing in EMEA & the states.

GOM is full of "inexpensive labor" overseas job replacing those re-deployed in EMEA and the states. Effectively "moved" positions not trimming staff.

For example AIX - mostly all of the US staff were re-deployed - but they're just re-hiring in the least expensive countries (with India being the most expensive they'll go).

Also 80% of EMEA US TSEs "re-deployed" with no landing as those jobs were really moved also to the cheapest countries

Indeed I think the only reason they're not hiring overseas for the harsh cuts in my project in EMEA and the states is that my product is already multi geo. and guess what - only the EMEA and US employees were re-deployed.

For you ? What are your options? I know some people in other countries have no options for any matches. Not great in US anyway - but some I know have zero alternatives in GOM.

Other posters are right about lack of {raises; bonuses; comp; anything} While it's probably "safe" for a while (being where positions are going) you should consider it only if there's nothing else and/or it's some required stepping stone.

In this market you should apply for everything and assume nothing. Recently I was being very selective - and seemed to have half a dozen strong candidates. All but one have gone dark and the one "inbound offer in the bag" is subject to hiring freeze exception only processing. So from excitement on multiple fronts to hoping that "one in the bag" actually comes through.

If you are really that STUPID, then by all means join IBM !
You will be the savior that the company needs.
You will be treated with respect and never ever have your benefits slashed.
Will luck when you hit 50 you will have the honor of trying to find a new job outside of the company.

"Great Role" and "IBM" should not be used in the same sentence.

A great role in a great company! A company that's been around for more than a hundred years but is still as hip today as the Edwardian clothing they wore in 1911. By all means join this great company. A groundbreaking company at the forefront of the transhumanist movement!!!

No point to join IBM, you will get screwed. IBM no longer pays bonuses, raise are mostly none and work sucks. IBM is about to lay off 4000 people and it is only the start. IBM needs to bring down the number of employees worldwide by 50K this year to improve gross profit and make the Free Cash Flow targets through 2024. Go look somewhere else.
