I know RIF casualties are supposed to get a few weeks of medical coverage after we depart, but assuming you don’t quickly find another job, what’s your plan for medical coverage? ACA? COBRA? Private plan?

@ck I forgot to add a few details. Don’t assume you are eligible for ACA. There are income rules. I also think that if you are eligible for cobra you can’t do ACA until an enrollment period. Also, the cost of ACA is dependent on how many people on the plan and their ages. In some cases it’s better to insure dependents individually. Call a broker for an estimate and the details that are applicable to your situation.
Europe.
The numbers probably depend on how many dependents you have. I have 5 people including myself. I’m estimating cobra to be about 2600/mo. Estimate for a 2026 ACA plan was $3000 for a bronze plan, $3118 for a value silver plan, and $3900 for a regular silver plan. None of those plans have as good benefits as what we are on now. So the plan is cobra and to pay for it out of the HSA. Getting care thru a spouse is not an option and we have significant medical bills even with insurance. So any helpful information from others would be greatly appreciated. For example, does anyone know if there are professional associations that offer group care rates or did that go away with ACA? I’m also willing to work 30 hrs for a place that offers healthcare while I look for a replacement job.
After Cobra, move to wife’s plan.
The past 2 RIFS I’ve been a part of in 2023 and 2024 my employees had insurance during their severance weeks, after that you can elect for cobra
Severance cobra and then move to my spouse’s plan. Which is certainly not as good as the VZ plan.

Medicare.
@a6 correct
@a4 Yes healthcare coverage is my biggest concern. I hear our length of coverage coincides with our length of service payout.
If I’m cut, Cobra will be much too expensive. Probably have to get on Obamacare. Got quotes for a BCBS family plan which will cost $800 monthly (with the subsidy) and $1,900 without it.
This is a great question. I wonder how long the company will cover our benefits after notice? I heard that cobra is expensive. I’d probably check out my state marketplace. But I think Trump is making that very expensive too.
