Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Protect yourself at all times

Like the old boxing rule, in todays Xom world protecting yourself has become a key survival skill.
With the annual hunger games of the rank process, ANY tidbit of information can and will be used by your competition and management. Any and all trust has been lost and you are setting yourself up for rank fodder if you think otherwise.

All of the forced social activities and feigned care events are ripe avenues for data extraction, it’s amazing how much information people freely give out. Also thinking you are “in” with your supervisor is another danger area (of course HiPos are excluded)
You have been warned…

I just do the old Ali's "Rope a Dope" move and let the chumps tire themselves out and then stick it up their royal keister and then surprise, surprise, surprise.

That's all the protection I have needed for a long time, and it's worked marvelously well.

How much do you think Rex regrets turning the reigns over to DW? He's completely contradicted XOM's classic strategy of being a long term play over a short term stock trade. As many faults and mistake Rex had, he at least was engaged with the employees and at least seemed to not hate everyone. DW despises the fact that the company has to employee people so he might as well offshore all of them.

As sad as it is to admit, absolutely everything you mention at work can (and most likely will) be used against you.

I have seen it happen many times over the years, but the last few years it’s been rampant. It’s not surprising since our performance appraisals process is not only based on Your performance, but also the performance of others. You are practically encouraged to throw people under the bus.

There is study after study that shows this type of ranking system de emphasizes collaboration & innovation and helps create an environment full of backstabbing and distrust.

@pvp OP (you?) speaks to a paranoid and entitled worldview characteristic of the demographic that makes up the majority of posters here.

Not everyone is is over 55 and hates life. Some of us actually get that this is just a job, and seek meaning outside of work. Try it sometime.

Unfortunately, OP speaks the truth. Come ranking time you will have very few real friends. Especially amusing are the "colleagues" who pr-------e themselves as useful id--ts to managers. Second hand spin from a useful id--t is considered fair data for ranking and behavior assessment.

“Protect yourself at all times…”

If this is where your head is at in relation to your job then it’s time to find another occupation. I don’t want you around me if this is how you think.
