Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I'm embarrassed by my own company

I'm retiring early because of the outsourcing of the service lines to MSPs. The quality of the work produced as a result is so poor that I'm embarrassed by my own company after more than 30 years of being relatively proud of my department's work output. The endless reply all emails which unnecessarily include hundreds of people who don't read them and have very little care factor. I have always liked my immediate team and workplace but this has been so deflating for me that I've lost a lot of motivation and I'll be going.

Posted by @uci+1k9sqdjO, this needed to be seen by more people.

@4vyv So your logic is it could be worse elsewhere to just keep drinking the Kool Aid and ride this toxic ship to one’s grave! Sorry but I moved on. I didn’t want to work for a company worse than ExxonMobil but one that is better.

If you’re embarrassed by the company you work for, leave. Which is what you said you’re doing. So for your own mental health that is good.

I get how people are unhappy etc., but go on other company forums here.

Go look at Honeywell, for example. Constant furloughs that actually occur. 2% pay rises. Ridiculous hours of work expected and far above anything here. Constant, constant, constant reduction in staff. Benefits cost between 50% to 100% more for less quality. Pay is generally much much lower. And on and on. I get nowhere is perfect but the grass also is t necessarily greener.

I’ll await the downvotes. But sometimes we have to realise we are not the worst. And get from it.

Go work retail. Go work in UK or EU and look at their salary. Go work for not oil and see what happens. Go work for government and see how valued we feel and how supported we actually are.

Again, I’ll await the downvotes. But that’s my two cents. And by all means expression frustrations etc and be annoyed as it’s totally fine but most of us at Exxon are still at least doing better than the average person - albeit benefits etc are going down the plug ho-e. But that’s not simply an Exxon thing.

BTC rocks!

My products are on time and of excellent quality.

They have a good sense of humor too (we need more of that).

@OP They’re embarrassed by you too.

It’s no fun explaining to vendors that someone with a fluffy title and 15+ YoS can’t build a macro or interpret graphical data. It’s even less fun having to hire consultants to make up for your shortcomings.

Exxon’s professional workforce is a joke.

The emails we are sending out to external parties from these low cost centers look like cyber attacks. Poor grammar, typos, etc.

I'm more embarrassed that the company still claims "integrity" and "care" are part of our 5 core values.

If you’re that embarrassed then then turn in your badge and walk out today.

Nobody cares about your principles. If you don’t feel like you can show up and do your job, move on. Trust me, there’s plenty of people willing to take your place who can do your job.

Yes, agree. It's no longer a status symbol to be an Exxon employee. It's devolved into a joke.

Me too. I cannot imagine how they treat me after 32 years of service.
