Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Reasons why you'd want to get back to the office?

Although there are many who like to work remotely and I understand them to some extent, there are many reasons why someone would like to return to the office. My reasons are:

  1. I will have a better work-life balance
  2. I will actually work fewer hours than from home

Careless, while I can understand your sentiment, why wouldn't you quit? How many years do you intend to persist in this state? You obviously don't respect your coworkers or the company. Why live a lie?

Going back to the office is a way for Ford and the rest of corporate greed to control you.

If they want me to return they need to show me a business case where me coming in, will lead to better individual and company performance.

@4kqy - Same thought pattern here - For my own self-respect I will do my best to be be disciplined to do my job (if we can define what that is for more than 2 months at a time ;)
The same skaters that are slacking now during WFH would be the ones walking around schmoozing and demonstrating the same old typical behaviors of corporate leeches as found in all of these 'globally fat' companies. I pretty much ignore all the cr-p of the growing idiocracy and document other's 'lack of participation' and back-stabbings in case I need to do the ol' CYA slap in their face. To paraphrase one of my favorite movies: "That's how they want it, that's how they get it."

I've had a near impossible tile contacting many individuals during this WFH mess. People just not answering WebEx even though it shows the on, not answering phones, etc. Have had many of the same offenders answer phones when they're "just running to the store really quick", "just running the kids somewhere...", "Just in the car for x,y,z", "on the golf course", "on a bike ride", "at the gym", and so on. Noises in the back, wind blowing into the mics, kids screaming, people talking, whatever it is, it's always "just real quick...". I'd believe that if it wasn't consistent and you actually answered your phones, and WebEx in a timely manner. They abuse it, they take advantage of it. One guy is constantly running his wife's business because of her medical conditions, so he damn near impossible to get ahold of.

However, I enjoy not having to deal with these people in person, so they can continue working from home, I don't care. I don't have to deal with people coming over and interrupting things I am working on, or stop me while going to the restroom and have them assign more tasks just because they saw me.

I'm just going to put my damn head down, do my job, complete my tasks, and ignore all you other f*ckers. As long as I'm getting paid, that's all I can ask for. If the company goes bellyup, there ain't $hit that anyone else can do, and I'll go find somewhere else. My morale is low for Ford and they say we are family, that's if it's a dysfunctional family of everyone stabbing each other in the back.

At this point, I'm only here for a paycheck. I don't need friends, I don't need some extravaganza, I don't even need to care what we are making. I DO NOT CARE.

You say no to RTO by quitting when they institute. Put your money where your mouth is. Coward.

@1bgy - Awesome list of Reasons not to go in ! Let's add a few:

  • - 'save the world' (and $) by not burning up energy commuting
  • - lower stress from not almost dying in crazy traffic every day

OK - Everybody chant it with us now: "Just say NO to RTO !, Just say NO to RTO !"

I am especially hoping that FLV and the LL3-5 in Ford Next are terminated. They are clueless about how to generate profits and their huge egos make it impossible for them to recognize their incapability.

We need to work on being a manufacturer of quality vehicles that average people want and can afford to buy. All the data and subscription sales they are dreaming of will never be as profitable.

A lot of people who are WFH would be lying through their teeth if they said that they have NEVER consumed alcohol while on the clock

The whole RTO is finally going to expose all the talkers and fakes especially amongs the LL5/4/3 ranks. With huge amounts of PEPs coming, everything is going to be documented. Its going to be nasty as most LL5/4 have been brought in from outside FMC and have next to no clue how to deliver an automotive product regardless if its the vehicle or some digital/ subscription product. Look at the losers brought in from HP and they're chosen, plenty of talk and useless decks but no dollars !!!! GM Brightdrop quickly has shown profits. Jim isnt too happy when the numbers dont add up. Remember super greedy piggy family that have no problem removing CEOs. We've been through 3 in less than 10 years, thats pathetic. Older employees with over 20 years know theyre on JFs cut list, and there's plenty of dead weight that believe a post it note can solve complex problems, laughable. Townhalls spew worse propaganda than Russian television. DF will be gone in 2 years if he doesnt produce and so will plenty of other LL3/2s. LOL Next is next to get ' reorgd ' FLV has accomplished nothing and from the looks of his directors they all know theyre f*#ked.

Wake up people! With all pre-2004 hires eliminated from payroll, managers must target and document another few thousand for ' separations.' Farley is cleaning house to make room for Doug's chosen and to save money by moving jobs out of NA. RTO or not, doesn't matter, Unless your part of friends and family, you've got a bullseye on your back. Most meetings and reviews are still over webex, and most are more productive at home. DF is never around, even he uses VR. RTO, just like EV dev, is nothing but a smokescreen to cull the NA ranks. I can only hope, LL4s and above will be exposed that are incompetent and eliminated. Starting with Next, all fakes and have cost the company billions and produced nothing of value, while Brightdrop performs.

I have to say one thing I like is not having to have my family complain about when I smell up the bathroom when I can use the work toilet. I usually eat a fair amount of previously frozen Mexican food and yes I do like to chase it with a malt li---r or 3. Then I top it all off with a cigar.

Ok well, needless to say, I have some smelly trips to the restroom the next morning and while my family complains nobody at work does so I prefer the work bathrooms. In fact I think my coworkers are perhaps missing the bouquet I create for them. Now the toilet paper at work is a bit like sandpaper but it’s still worth it.

I don't like them either. At high pressure, one small miscalculation of the water stream and you take out some critical infrastructure.

Well, Google has toilet seats which are heated (and include bidets). They had to remove some of them because they don't comply with local code. Good for you Googlers! My wife had them installed in our home toilets. I personally prefer the conventional mechanical method we have in the office. As with vehicles, the new-fangled electrification technology is not what it's "cracked" up to be.

I’ve been going in 3-4 days a week since it was allowed, only downside for me with with an RTO is heavier traffic and tighter parking. I like being trusted and being able to go in when I think it’s value-added.

I work hybrid and I love it. I still have my office cube so none of that hotel/open office malarky. It would be unbearable to not have my own space.

I wonder how many here that are so badly wanting to RTO have ever truly worked in an open office environment?

While I still worked at Ford, my last office building was iTek east, which was done up as open office space. It was freaking horrible!!! You literally sat 18 inches from someone on three sides of you. No privacy, no space, noise from everyone everywhere. No sane person wants this type of environment.

Usually people with (sometimes noisy) children at home sometimes prefer to work in the office. I personally would like to see an international work option being put on track and move to warmer climate. With respect to Ford this will probably stay a dream.

Reasons not to go in:

  1. No more smelling burned popcorn, smelly fish dishes, and spices, from employees warming up their lunches.
  1. Don't have to deal with loud talkers.
  1. No more sitting next to smelly people.
  1. No more contaminated cesspool shared bathrooms.
  1. Don't have to worry about being too hot or too cold.
  1. No changing from boots to shoes.
  1. Have windows to actually see the sun.
  1. Stressful situation...you can go take the dog for a walk or get on the treadmill.
  1. You can eat healthier and control snacking.
  1. No more drop bys that suck your time away.

The list is endless!

agreed... open office + hotelling + no personal desk = nightmare work environment

anyone who is a so-called knowledge worker needs some peace and quiet

why these building planner / "architects" dont understand that is beyond human comprehension

it's like they want you to fail

I’ve worked in an office for 20+ yrs so in the back of my mind I guess I knew it was inevitable that we’d be going back at some point. But, and it’s a BIG but I’d like 5 minutes alone with the a-ho-e that thought up the open office & hotelling and all I need is 3’ feet of separation from my co-workers. I mean I like my co-workers fine but just not that close! We do 0% collaboration so I bought myself the new 3rd gen AirPods so those combined with Spotify should make it tolerable.

Do not return to this toxic environment. If you are good and don't need any help to do your job well they can't force you to RTO. Simply quit and move to a better company.

There will be more cuts. Jobs will be sent to Mexico, Brazil and India. Why pay someone to WFH here, when Ford can pay less for someone in Mexico, Brazil and India to WFH.

My job requires only occasional office visits. I'm ready to do that. I don't see a point to come to the office just for the sake of it. Many times I had to stop working and go home because of bad weather or traffic. Also, if I m in office, I don't start doing something new work related around 5pm.
