Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Thinking about whether I will be surplused is a major demotivator

I love my job and it wouldn't be a problem for me to sometimes invest extra time and extra effort because I think that I am adequately compensated, I have time for my family, hobbies, etc. However, considering that extra efforts does not help anyone's longevity with the company, why work myself to burnout? It's management's own fault that doesn't know how to get the best out of employees.

I think T leadership forgot that scheduling layoffs every qtr has negative impact on productivity. It causes low morale and work aversion.

Doesn't matter how hard you work, how hard you try, if you take extra courses or not, if you got great APRs...nothing matters at this cesspool of a company. If you're in management and your boss doesn't like you, or has "pets" and you're not one of them, you're effectively screwed. If you're not "in the club", a "pet" so-to-speak, you're nothing.
I've never seen a more Kiss A-s company then T, even more than financial services. I thought I'd seen it all. Nope, not by far in this company.

Do yourself and family a favor. If you have even the slightest whiff you may be laid off, find other employment and get out FAST! Leave on your own accord, not some thumb-sucking AVP's who only knows how to change arrow color on a power point or order takeout on their company credit card.

Doesn't matter in union protected personnel if they work hard or not at all! It's always by seniority, LIFO, ( last in first out) is still the way whether the company likes it or not!

Not guaranteed but reasonable to think that not putting in an honest days work makes it more likely you will make the next surplus list. If this job isn't worth it to you carry on.

Working in mgmt and the union both have their pros and cons. Although you could be surplused based on your NCS date, I still believe in the current environment is better to be in the union and not mgmt. In mgmt you can be surplused because your boss doesn't like you. There is zero protection for mgmt employees. If you are a tech, you get trained, your pay is probably better than most 1st & 2nd lines once you include OT. I understand the anxiety of surpluses and not knowing, but understand that's a commonality we all face each and every year we work here.

Been there many times and constantly looking over your shoulder and waiting for the next surplus announcement, one of which is tomorrow. Its definitely tiring and unmotivating knowing no matter how hard you work, you can get surplused at any time just because of your NCS date.

Just remember you are on the shoulders of giants, real men ! Don't forget the legacy of making it seamless and taking ownership.
Prefer to refer, 2020 , learn to code., Six sigma and the pride of knowing you are the best of the best of the best, the tip of the spear, one of Randall's raiders. Hallelujah.
