Thread regarding Belk layoffs

I think belk is slowly trying to improve its reputation

I think belk is trying to do better

I’m sure I’m gonna get slammed for this post, but I heard belk has gotten so much negative publicity for their store operations that they are trying to do better. Hometown stores seem to have it the toughest, while mall and golden stores have a less demanding workload for each employee.

I certify don’t want to see belk suffer, it’s an iconic part of North Carolina.

I do think they are slowly realizing that some of their managers and corporate leadership are toxic.

Belk has been taken over by people fired from Macys, from top to bottom, it’s alarming that this is happening, and they all hire their friends and relatives, it’s almost like a cult, it’s very unsettling.

I still say, walk into a Belk, then walk into a Dillards, Von Maur, Nordstrom, or even JC Penney, it's like night and day. That says it all.

After they bought Persian, they had an identity crisis. They wanted to recreate what they had in Charlotte, so adding Dallas, Atlanta, and Birmingham was hopeful. Then, celebrity deals came and went. Kristin Davis, Cam Newton, and Garcia in housewares all failed. Next up: 'Let's change the logo and tagline, then sell.' So, it was a good time to get out when they really couldn't pick up major market share. Unfortunately, the identity crisis continues."

The family knew the right time to sell....they neglected stores too...they wanted to pull out as much profit as possible and years of neglect has caught up to the stores ( the family wasn't replacing carpet and painting either)

They haven't made any changes in leadership...Don needs to step down and they need to ask others leave! Private equity has one goal an that is to get the investment back. The good thing about Belk is they own lots of thier stores so leasing them back ensures that stakeholders will get thier $$. An they margins are good on Private labels ( that's why they sit on tons of clearance) will they make it in the long run...maybe

I’ve worked with Belk for quite a few years and got to experience a year under the Belk family ownership which was a great experience. Yes the past few years have been tough especially for the hometown stores, but Belk did go through a bankruptcy and have to do tough things to turn the business around and sadly the easiest way for a company to do that is payroll which su-ks. Idk I know ill get slammed for this too but I don’t want this company to fail id love to see them make a change and turnaround. I think now sycamore is out of the picture things should slowly improve since the stakeholders own the company now, and for those that don’t know if the company fails the stakeholders lose their money so they should want it to succeed. My store just got new carpet and paint and more hours so I’m hopeful to see a change!
