Kansas City call center office surplussed

I'm in the Kansas City office and we just got surplus. No reason given but got offered a pay out obviously or follow the work to another Missouri office. How ridiculous is it that we have good attendance and good numbers but I look at numbers and see offices in Amarillo, Earth City and San Antonio that's last in attendance and almost last in performance yet they just get new hires. Make it make sense

No, they surplused 37 account reps, but also offered VTP up for up to 37 people.

Follow the work and risk getting surplussed again not worth it especially if you have to move out of state to follow the work

It may be worth following the work, OP. Everyone is in a different situation so do what’s right for you. I’ve done it several times and it’s worked for me, including when I worked in your same call center on Blue Pkwy about 20 years ago. If you want to keep with the company, I would suggest getting test qualified for other positions in the company so you can apply for jobs either through ATS or NTP.

Your union appreciates your monthly donations. Please follow the work to keep those donations coming in. The annual meeting in Vegas depend on your continued participation.

Why do we even need that many call centers? There are virtual assistants that can do most of that work.

CWA is a branch of AT&T. Your local CWA acts like they're protecting you and are there for you but deep down they work for the company. They look at you as a number and another person to take money from (union dues). If you follow the work opt of of union dues. Even if you don't pay them they still have to protect you, take it from me. I haven't paid union dues for years and the CWA still has to kiss my a-s and protect me everytime the company tries to write me up

Call centers are easily moved to lower paying countries with agents who can speak any form of english. This has been the industry trend nice the early 2000’s. This will continue until there are no call centers left in the U.S. Companies don’t want customers calling in anyway, they want customers interacting online. If the customer insists on calling in then they will get whatever they get on the phone. The only reason it hasn’t happened faster at AT&T is because they have to deal with the union. In the end nothing will stop them from completely moving the call centers. Do not move for a retail or call center job.

I was a rep that was part of san diego closure. I am now commuting 2 hours to work. Best advice I can offer, is to follow the work if you are close to retirement or if it would be very difficult to find like employment .

Don't rely the union. The san diego president during our layoff lied to the membership and was rolled over by the company. The cwa national did nothing. As the comment below states, you are on your own.

I started off at that Legacy T call center/CSSC many years ago when it was still in Lee’s Summit. It’s one of the few left. I’m guessing that there’s a lot of people with well over 30 years that will take VTP. Not sure where you can go near KC if you want to move with the job, unless it’s to SBC call center. Hopefully nobody has to move, and also go Chiefs!

Don't follow the work. You will just be miserable wherever you go knowing you can get surplus again at anytime T feels like doing so. The company doesn't care about you and your family

C W A doesnt care about you either. They closed San Diego with about 500 reps. Union spoke big about fighting it, lawsuit, labor board charges, grievanes, but they ended up canceling all the grievances and nothing happened.

You are on your own.

The reason is because they just opened a mega center in Peru. They speak fairly good English and get paid less than 1/4 what you probably make. Of course T will give them a little $100-$200 bonus here and there to make them happy

AT&T doesn't care about you or any of those other offices. Guaranteed within the next 5 years that 2 or maybe all 3 of those offices you just mentioned will get surplussed as well
