Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

CISCO IS LIKE A SLOWLY MELTING ICE CUBE

Things will only get worse unless a new CEO comes in with non-phony senior management to hit the reset button and undue the big mess Chuck created for 80K employees as well as customers that were forced to move off of Cisco legacy infrastructure

Microsoft=software company comment is a hoot. They are a marketing company who's only software brilliance has been coopting the ideas of others and staying just on this side of line of ip infringement.

One of the posts talks of missing out on software and security. Cisco couldn’t program its way out of an open paper bag and despite the absolute brilliance of the Product Security Baseline too many teams trying to enhance the security of general products refused to read that document even when they knew about it.

If the ELT failed it’s because they tolerate mediocrity at every level and this goes back throughout the Chambers era. At this point working in routing and switching software approaching 40 years old is like maintaining COBOL and if they tried to pull an Elon Musk they’d never be able to hire competent people to replace the existing staff because no one with real talent would ki-l their career to do this kind of maintenance. The problems are pervasive at every level.

Another problem for Cisco is their valuation is based on high margins so no matter what ELT you have their chances of getting into lower margin higher volume products and services without tanking the stock price is low which limits opportunities. They’ll keep acquiring and growing slowly for the foreseeable future because there really isn’t any other viable option.

For everyone calling on Chuck to go into hiding and not holding big events, investors don’t want to see a shrinking violet. The grand displays even in the face of real failure which you haven’t yet experienced keep them onboard.

"Microsoft has a very Smart Technical CEO with a strong management team and everyone knows that is not the case at Cisco"

Microsoft = Software Company
Cisco = Sales Company (Markets itself as a tech company to Wall Street)

Cisco builds relationships with large enterprises and governments to sell switches and routers. CR is the perfect CEO for a company that is focused on cost cutting and building strategic relationships.

A smart technical CEO at Cisco would struggle to sell switches to the Department of Agriculture. I don't think you understand how Cisco actually makes money.

Ice is melting very fast at Cisco so either get a new CEO ASAP or end up like Nortel and the rest of the dead in the junkyard

"How do MS do it with the current CEO? They were struggling for a number years?"

Microsoft was never struggling. Microsoft is a software and transitioned their database business into the cloud. Cisco is a sales and marketing company that relies on acquiring technologies.

Every major product at Cisco was obtained through acquisition

I'm so confused. What mess did he create? We sell and market networking equipment that was obtained through acquisitions. There's no recovering from missing out on cloud, software, and security acquisitions. It's 2022 and our business is selling switches and routers. Chambers made the wrong acquisitions.

The CEOs job is to maintain a positive brand while cutting costs during a managed decline.

Agreed. Chuck needs to remove about 99% of the senior management, and ki-l half of the product lines. Would that lay off people? yes. Would it save money? Yes. Would it ki-l overlapping product lines? Yes. Would the company be better afterwards? Absolutely.

Now that they finally decided to sell WebEx division, I would also sell off the rest of the junk Chuck bought and take their losses so the new CEO can start building the company back up with solutions that customers actually want to buy
