Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I’m not sure what’s worse at this point

The layoffs, the constant hope that the work environment will become better only to find that it has become even more toxic than before, or the horrible managers who are only concerned with how they look in front of their bosses. Furthermore, office politics are set up to reward sycophants who kiss up to their superiors and a-s-kissers who do nothing but criticize their peers. How can anyone find any motivation to do more than a bare minimum? To go above and beyond? I know I can’t.

Not sure what you guys talking about, but there has been no layoff in my country for the past several years. Has there been any layoff lately? If so, that's only in US.

…constant hope that the work environment will become better…

This is not asked sarcastically: on what do you base this hope and how has it remained constant given your self described increasingly bad experiences?

How can anyone find any motivation to do more than a bare minimum? To go above and beyond? I know I can’t.

Many of us still went above and beyond because we felt morally obligated to return value for that six digit salary and we were able to explain how we didn’t just shrivel up in the hard times during interviews for the next companies. It turns out a self motivated employee who doesn’t need constant appeasement is considered valuable at other companies.

do like the ELT does, spew toxic nonsense, act woke , show up if required, half a sss everything, blame others and do your checkins, and guess what, you get to collect lots of money and stock. Maybe if you out sell the guys who have three other jobs you can go to hawaii and get a pic with chucky and see what Fran is wearing. I see more upside to working at cisco than rather going somewhere that expects you to know something and do stuff.

Totally agreed, it went downhill after 2010 and getting worse and worse everyday... I think LR may be a good thing, so that I can finally leave that toxin place. I did all the work and a few friends and family don't ever work at all and got to stay. Manager is a parrot and yes man so is the 2nd line... what a sad place.

Use the holiday break to decide what companies to interview with so you and your family can enjoy good health and make more money instead of dealing with Cisco incompetence

There are still places that are much better and truly appreciate committed and technically competent employees.

Cisco was that place from the year 2000, up until the year 2010 or so; at least it was for me.

Regretfully, empowered and trusting leadership does make all the difference. Ironically, after my LR five years ago; I (so luckily) ended up at a small private company, brought in by some old Cisco TAC old timers.

We have great leadership; that is the whole difference. The owners and CIO give us the mindspace, funding money, and trust; to do our jobs.

Yes like everything there are some long days and challenges; but without any of the current drama many if not most of you are experiencing currently.

I have been where you are, and wish you a good journey if either 2023 is the year you decide to move on; or if that LR'd decision has been made for you.

This is all part of the journey. My advice, after playing this game for so long; is yes to try to consider it truly a game. Find your core skills and focus on them. Strengthen yourself up with exercise. Seek mental health counseling.

There are still good places out there. Half the battle is figuring out who you are; and toughening up your mind.

Tell me where it's different. Unless you're your own boss, there's always going to be an annoying manager and a handful of bootlickers somewhere in the chain.
