Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

UOP VRIFs

Another round of VRIFs went out toward the end of 2025 and those offers expire ~Jan 9th. Generally would expect more RIFs to follow.

@fh I have been hearing the exact opposite with this VRIF - fewer volunteers than HR's target, so they are not rejecting anyone (despite management complaints).

@b5 You will get (pay for) medical/dental benefits until end of severance period, then are eligible for 18 months of COBRA. That will get you 2.25 years closer to Medicare.

The pension changes in the 2010's was absolutely criminal. Other large defense contractors did the same BUT.... they phased it in over a 5 year period in order for you to replan your retirement. Honeywell gave us 2 weeks.

@eg Im with you on the years I have in. I did sit with finance place/planner and they said I best pulling lump some of the pension and invest it and be able live off that and my other investment to so can live comfy. Will pulling SS at 65 but if things come up and need more $$$ I start the SS too. I just wish Honeywell kept UOP alone and not turn it so sad for a 100year old plus company UOP was, tons family and friends all worked there Ill stop here sure you understand.

From my Aero experience, if you have any skills at all and they think they need, you will never be granted a VRIF.

With that many years in with one company you should have a pension and a sizable savings plan balance. Do what I did and take the VRIF, start claiming your pension (it is likely capped for you anyway based on what they did in the 2010's), and find another local job so you have two incomes. Work as long as you want and start Social Security next year if you need even more income.

Rats if was closer to my retirement year I probably would've of took it 42years in at UOP but at young age 61 not just ready yet. But cant wait to do it Honeywell made UOP MEH now too much is all about spreadsheets making sure boxes green instead of worrying about how is is on the floor.
