Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

The fate of the middle?

I know there are people on this site who probably have some insights into what’s happening with remote employees. Specifically in that middle job grade class (14-17).
If you can share any insights into the remote/layoff strategy in 2026 please do. Should I be concerned and on alert if I’m in this grade range and remote?

I was a GL 15, was remote. There is a hub 40 miles from my house. I was never given option of working hybrid because I was more than 30 miles from hub. Notice multiple "was" references. Yes, I was laid-off. One person on same team is, also, GL 15 and working remote still. They are more than a couple hours from hub. Will be interesting to see how much longer they csn be retained in that environment.

Being busy is not an indicator of safety.

I am experiencing the opposite. I'm busier than I have ever been, remote, grade 15.

Im a 15 and I have been busier than ever. Got more work done this last year than ever before with no end in sight so far this year.

@cj We don’t have the space for 5 days in the office for everyone unless Gunjan expects people to work on the floor. Knowing her that’s acceptable behavior.

@cr Jesus! I can feel the arrogance in Demchak's tone. Given our CEO and buffoon committee is incapable of creative thinking it is coming for us too then. Brace yourselves!

I've always been remote here. Grade 15. My workload has never been heavier, but my team has faced multiple layoffs, no backfills, and several people quit. If anything, we've been told to expect workload to increase with no additional resources for the foreseeable future.

We know that there's no path forward for advancement, or even lateral movement as remote employees. I'm biding my time until the job market improves. Could I be laid off? Yes, but I can't sweat it. There's nothing you can do to stop a layoff. Just give me my bonus, LTI, and severance and I will happily be on my way!

I just saw Truist pulled there people back starting January and PNC announced they are back to office 5 days. It’s starting to get harder to even find remote jobs in banking, and I suspect it’s going to embolden more banks to move more in office.

The strategy employed in my BL so far is to craft policies that make being remote unattractive, but no guidance to target them for layoffs.

That said, I've told my remote folks that it is an increasingly tough place to work without an office to go to, and that I really don't know what policy change will come tomorrow.

The push for anti remote will end in a couple years after GK is gone. She is only temporary. Just hang in there and make sure you document all actions taken by the company in case you need to file a lawsuit. I would suggest contacting your local EEOC for guidance.

Hard to say for sure, but I’d imagine all remote workers are on the line right now. Curious if any remote workers have had their work drastically reduced, or if you were restructured into a totally different, insulting role than what you were hired for over the last year? Trying to determine if I was targeted by a--holes or if this is a tactic to force attrition happening across the organization.
