Tech Layoffs: Cisco Announces Mass Layoffs - 4,100 Employees Cut

  • This week, Cisco started implementing layoffs totaling 5% of its workforce.
  • At the same time, Cisco is actively hiring for new roles. The company says this is part of a restructuring, and workers it cannot place internally will receive severance packages.
  • Recently, the tech sector has been making headlines for layoffs. While noteworthy, it doesn’t mean these employment losses represent the job market as a whole.

Not sure what you guys talking about, but there has been no layoff in my country for the past several years. Has there been any layoff lately? If so, that's only in US.

"Why not place those folks who have been LR'ed into those new roles?"

Because if you are a senior with a good salary, you stand no chance. They will hire a junior person at a much lower salary, and it does not matter if experience, skills and know how are lost.

Why aren’t they placed? I don’t want a loser from collab poisoning my high performing team.

Because layoffs have nothing to do with an employee's skills. The layoff paperwork will even state the reason for restructuring has nothing to do with performance; the individual's being identified as a LR candidate is simply a business requirement.

In the overall financial perspect, the identified person's restructuring is counted towards the fiscal requirement.

Having people move out of the identified LR candidate and into another position would only require the restructuring calculation not to align to the overall LR balance sheet allotment.
