This triggered me. SSIM has absolutely no metrics to meet.

Nowhere near the number that everyone thinks will be laid off! Everyone on this site thinks doom and gloom, but the reality of it is that the numbers will be lower than expected next year. Sure, there will certainly be layoffs, but not in dramatic style!

The wire techs usually get the easy apartment - condo fiber installs and SSIM get the dogs that the wire techs turn back. Most fiber installs include placing an aerial or buried fiber drop with ONT/Gateway for residential or Ciena with media converter and router for business. Takes time to do the install unless the service was existing. I took the $50,000 buyout during covid. Things may have changed since.
AT&T will not realize do-more-with-less production improvements until they begin gutting some of the L2-L4 management. I've watched this cycle for 13 years. Fire the little guy if all you want is headcount reduction. Fire these levels of management if you want to see positive change.
My group is down 20%. We’ve been running an employee deficit all year. We are being told we may or may not get headcount in 2023. We are a growth org too. My upper mgmt said this is the new normal.
Being asked to evaluate your business unit employees is one thing, having to give up or reduce head count is entirely another and the latter is just not gonna happen! There will be no head count reduction for field technicians due to the needs of the business especially in BFS!

Don't be scared, Yes even your business unit was asked to evaluate -the end result may have been we're growing but the business needs were still reviewed and head-count and/or new hire limits were lowered as part of the re-org to 5G/Fiber focus.

Not all technicians, wire techs still needed in new, out of franchise markets. For years know T been chopping FTs and STa heads at every occasion they have. It also doesn’t mean they won’t layoff 1st level managers in those same areas. Do more with less. years ago we went from 10, 12 techs per mgr to 20 to 24 technicians per mgr.
We are down 3074 since 11/23, bringing the total to 159,866. No idea if that reflects ALL that have left as of 11/30 ( don’t know when the number gets updated). If so,it suggests many did not leave, or they left before the 11/23 snapshot.
1Q financial statement lists total employees at 203,160. Spin off happened after that.
3Q financials state total employee count at 169,880.
It looks like we dropped 10k since the 3Q results were reported.
The last statement couldn't be further from the truth! not EVERY business unit has been asked to evaluate their personnel for reduction due to the needs of the business. The need for field technicians in out of region areas of the country is growing, therefore, those positions will not be reduced in number no matter what. That's just the way it is!
Now that corporate has seen the numbers of those who left voluntarily due to the pension rate change, phase 2 is being implemented. EVERY BUSINESS UNIT has been asked to evaluate personnel for a reduction and we'll now see people let go with severance by the end of January 2023
As of about a couple of weeks ago total employee count was reduced just shy of 3k.
We'll know better numbers when we get back in the new year.. It's probably between 5% - 10% depending on your division.. Don't worry this is the first round expect more cuts come end of Q12023
When it’s all said and done, should be about 17K (10 % reduction ).
