Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Required days in office

What’s the deal if we can’t make it into the office a minimum 2 days a week on certain weeks? I can’t get a consistent response on this…

I typically am in the office the mandatory 2 or 3 days a week but on rare occasions I need to hang back and work from home due to a personal issue. Does this have any actual impact on performance review? Or is it just for optics, and case by case? (ie if you manager doesn’t care, does it matter?)

Why do people downvote H-1B workers? All Americans here seem to hate H-1B Visa workers but the truth is hat they are our most cost effective employees. Good attitudes, well educated, dedicated and focused, they are everything that the U.S. workers aren’t.

Just look at the vitriol & attitudes of the U.S. workers posted here.

With these attitudes why do you think we’re going offshore?

Honestly, showing up for work regularly and on time is a basic life skill that is typically acquired at 16 years of age and usually younger with odd jobs.

Us managers are being advised that even if the employee is EE and not making mandatory 9 days per month in the office they will be off target at mid year and if it continues at year end will be BE. It’s hard to believe Sr Leadership is spending so much time on this big brother approach. Just think we spent a greater part of 2 yrs home. We were able to collaborate with our colleagues many of us that have staff in other locations that we do not have face to face interaction in our home office

Outside of the obvious racial, ethnic and religious prejudices, why do people pile on and downvote H-1B workers? We mostly use H-1B hires from India and and in technology it’s true that the skillsets generally aren’t as good as Americans but we’ve had and have some real superstars. As for Ops jobs once they’re up to speed and understand the job they’re more reliable than Americans and they focus and work harder.

So why the downvotes… insecure and afraid of competition?

It’s based on turnstile swipes, from what I understand. I am considering popping in and swiping any time I’m in the area, and walking right back out, be it a weekend, week night, whatever, just to play with stats.

I just love how people here downvote the truth. We couldn’t operate without our H-1B employees and their work ethic. The “American Work Ethic” has always been an Immigrant work ethic. History is as close as your library.

And yet people have regularly commuted to much harder jobs for 5 or more days a week ever since the Industrial Revolution. This doesn’t bode well for the slackers who haven’t acquired a work ethic. i see difficult life lessons ahead.

There is a prejudice because H1-B are smarter and generally better than the lazy, stupid American.

Agreed. We absolutely need more H1-B resources. Unfortunately there is significant U.S. prejudice against H1-B workers. I don’t understand why but it’s true.

Now I know what everyone means by this place being he-l. Being in the office for most of us is completely and utterly pointless.

Did anyone have their year end review and was RTO a factor in your rating and comments ?

@yrv WM has been on mandatory 3 day minimum for 3 months, with heavy implication of 3 days expected since March. CK decided she deserved to make her own requirements since she’s got the “CEO” title, even though it’s not the real thing.

If you don’t believe me on the coding, I have from multiple managers who attended the briefing that less that 3 days a week in the previous 4 weeks puts you in the “red” category, 3 days in puts you in the “mint”, more is “green”, and less than 2 is in the “maroon”. They’re tracking our building swipes like we work at the Ministry of Truth

Exactly why BNY needs to sponsor high quality, highly skilled H1-B and OPT holders.

@OP

My advice is to submit the question to Robin in a town hall, ask your manager, submit the question to Peakon, post the question on Mysource, email HR and ask coworkers. After you receive a dozen different responses (4 different answers from Robin alone) pick your favorite answer and run with it.

No reason to listen to the management when they aren’t even on the same page.

“I’m the leader… where did everyone go?”

I’ve been told it takes 9 days in a month to get to ‘green’- which makes the requirement slightly more than 2 days a week. The data sent to managers doesn’t include holidays, vacations, sick time, or things such as the transportation strike in London, so almost everyone was showing up as red at some point.

He’s actually correct. Right now, all the reports are run off of three day week requirement with different color coding for whether or not you coming in on rolling 4 week intervals. - never been in. In but not enough. In office as expected. Or in more than required.
It’s crazy.

@nhd+1kgt5AIo - I call BS - there is no 3 day minimum (yet), so what are you even talking about?

The irony of all of this nonsense is how many new hires are home-based….

There are many reasons not to be in 2-3 days per week. Vacation, off-site events. A lot of people are going to be red now and again. This is kindergarten color coding and yet another way to demoralize and scare employees. Don’t give in and worry. Do your job and don’t fret the occasional red month. It’s all ridiculous and designed to treat us as toddlers. If they are so worried about people coming in, let them look at people who never ever do or pressure (in NYC) the government to make the city safe.

If you don’t get the minimum 3 days per week you will be highlighted Red for that month. That puts you in the BE category and your manager would have to argue why you deserve a ME and a bonus at all.

Essentially if your manager likes you and is willing to fight for you, you’re fine. But, it’s now an anchor on your bonus comp/raise as they have to justify why you deserve one.
