With the layoffs and everything else that's been happening at Cisco, I've been trying to find a way out for the past few months. It hasn't been easy since it's been a while since I did anything like this but I'm pushing through. I had my first interview on Monday, and the interviews were more than 30 minutes late. I was ready to give up when they finally showed up. Is this normal? Or did I run into a dud on my first try? Should I stay away from that company?

I had that happen multiple times, with multiple companies. It is sadly becoming pretty commonplace. It's a big red flag about the interviewers' personal behavior. It's a massive red flag if it's the hiring manager....it shows they only value their own time, and no one elses.
At the time I was pretty urgent to get a new job, so I put up with it. I had plenty of money....I just hate burning it without a paycheck, and I had multiple kids in college. Otherwise, I'd advise striking companies/people like that off your list.
When I was a hiring manager, I was NEVER late for an interview, or rescheduled at the last minute. Doing things like that reflects on you as a person.
I’ve gone through terrible hiring processes (Cisco was the worst background check experience I’ve ever had) but being late to an interview is unacceptable. At best I might continue and accept a job offer but keep looking.
Right? I was previously a Cisco employee who got LR'd in 2016. I was a contractor at Cisco starting in 2018 and when I was being converted to an employee again, the company Cisco hired to do my background check could not verify that I was a Cisco employee from 'XX-'16 and would not accept the Cisco HR provided "Cisco Verification of Employment Letter" signed by HR. Cisco wouldn't consider the background complete until the third-party verified all prior employers even though the only employment not verified was Cisco's and Cisco HR could see/verify it themselves. Talk about having to go back-and-forth. The problem was, that the only way the third party would "verify" my previous Cisco employment was if I provided a start & end date W-2 form from Cisco. The end date was easy as 2016 was only a few years back, but the start date W2 was more than 10 yrs ago and the IRS, nor myself, kept W-2's going back 10+ yrs and Cisco didn't have it because they'd switched to Workday and didn't transfer "data" from non-employees or prior employees from the old system into Workday.
It was a f-ing sh-t show trying to get that worked out. I wonder if it was worth coming back for the benefits & having to put up with weekly TeamSpace check-ins, reviews, etc. At least now, I get a severance package and notice before being let go and not a sudden push out the door w/ no pay as a contractor.
My manager is late to the every meeting and is always throwing last minute (usually late in the day) meetings on our calendars. The worst part is when you have to wait around for that late in the day meeting and then it gets canceled or rescheduled again. Manager is not considerate of our time at all and was really late to the interview, that should’ve been the first red flag.
5 minutes late and I start drafting an email to reschedule/find out what’s going on. 10 minutes late I hit send and leave the meeting.

Shows a complete lack of respect to me. Certainly not the type of people that I would want to work for. And you hanging on the line for 30 minutes waiting for them reeks of desperation. Should have hung up after 10 minutes.
Don't worry, you don't have that job yet, so nothing to lose. On the flip side maybe this was part of the interview process to test you on your level of being patient. Think positively, always, especially when you're job-hunting.
Been turned down by many companies and have people show up late or cancel at the last minute. so it's not a surprise.
Recruiters are very picky, hiring teams are sloppy, and no one seems to care about ethics any more.
Just a "sorry we're late." No explanation, nothing while I was waiting.
There will always be some reason for hiring manager being late, they have their day job and no one likes doing interviews. I’d say 30mins is a bit much though if you didn’t get a courtesy note from the hiring manager or the talent acquisition person. If you didn’t get an apology or a reason at the start then I’d be wary of the hiring manager not necessarily the company.
