Thread regarding 3M layoffs

What's happening with 220?

It's clear they're either going to gut it or tear it down, it's just a matter of time. Why else would they have only like 3 (above ground) floors in service? It's weird hearing about how some functions don't have desks but we've got 10 empty floors in 220. This feels like a metaphor for... something.

220 was built in 1962 and filled with Asbestos- a common fireproofing material used at the time. In the 1980's 3M payed for a partial Asbestos abatement required by the government over cancer health concerns. It was only a partial job removing all the material below the ceiling tiles.Everything above was left intact. no one is allowed to remove tiles to redo HVAC/wiring with out full protective gear. Even though only half the job was done at the time 3M management were on record they could have torn down 220 and built something new for the cost of Asbestos removal. The building was such an iconic landmark they decided to keep it standing. 1964's 224 was plagued with the same problems and will eventually be torn down. incidentally 223 & 225 were not built using asbestos.

When building 42 existed, adjacent was Reany Heights, a home for the cognitively impaired. It was known as 3M Engineering Management Training School. lol

@aj

After Solventum moves out, move the occupants of 216, 250/251/252 and maybe part of 208/218/219 in as well.

Either Assisted Living, homeless shelter and/or daycare facilities. Fly this up the flagpole, it's a h#ll of a great idea!

It’s that silly internal shell game of no manager wanting to spend money for additional floor space. So there it sits unused.

Build 224 is closed on floors 3-6 too. It's frustrating coming in & not readily finding a workstation available, especially knowing all those floors are going unused.
