It does not matter if it's #ffffff or #964b00, Intel loves trash.

The CEO would not be able to set foot in Washington D.C. again if he announces plans to expand in Italy. The CEO was seen waving from the gallery at the State of the Union address and was able to manage big tax credits program. Politicians in D.C. who signed up for the program would feel shafted if Intel suddenly commits to new fabs outside 'Merika. Not gonna happen.

Besides all that, Intel products are flagging and it can't fill all the fabs it has already broken ground on. It would do well to stop yapping and start executing from here on out.

Italy badly needs high tech. They'll take scraps that Germany throws away...but in the end even if Italy gets it, they will not be able to deliver due lack of power, unstable land and lack of skilled engineers.

For someone who studied at the feet of Andrew S. Grove, the new CEO seems to be grifting for gov't help in a way ASG would never have. ASG was an immigrant who blazed a new trail and didn't rely on handouts to get the job done.

TJ Rogers has also been a very vocal and persuasive about how useless and wasteful gov't intervention into semiconductors has been. Remember the fear of Japan Inc., in the 80s? And the debacle called SEMATECH? You can't build stellar technology on tax breaks, you actually have to innovate or die.

Yup, Italy the hotbed of advanced manufacturing and consumers of leading edge chips.

I guess if Germans won’t cough up enough money let’s see what the Italians will give Intel.
