Considering offer at Nielsen

I’m considering an offer from Nielsen in NYC within their Consumption Products / media measurement organization, focused on driving product adoption, campaign activation, and incremental revenue growth across client accounts.

Is it worth it or hard pass?

There are people I really like who are still hanging on at Nielsen.

So it is very difficult and with great regret I have to say this: Do not work there.
In my opinion they have ethics problems within the company all the way up to the top level. I can't be sure... but while I was there that is how it seemed to me.

This is my opinion. Best of luck to you I hope you have or find other opportunities with more respectable companies. I apologize to anyone who finds this post offensive in any way.

Hard pass if you are the sincere kind, who enjoys work, believes in meritocracy, wants the majority of leadership, coworkers to be genuinely nice people who actually know something about the industry and technology.

Worth it if working a job is secondary, just to make a quick buck, pass some time. Do not give it your all. It shouldn't be your mainstay. Majority of leadership and coworkers are sniveling weasels because ofcourse like-minded hiring including relatives, known ex-colleagues, friends. Toxic, parasitic.

I am surprised you would ask on here since this site is obviously talking about Nielsen's layoffs? Is not something like Glassdoor more appropriate? It seems people here have a similar opinion not to accept such jobs. Although lately I have been seeing slightly more job offers advertised in locations not GCC, but this might just be a strategy

Hard pass. You’re going to be working with someone very likely to backstab you at the first opportunity aka as soon as you miss a number. Plus your job lasts only as long as they can’t have an Indian or AI do it.

Nielsen used to be a great company and felt like family. But recently they have decided to replace most of their US employees with those in Mexico, India and Poland because they are cheap labor. Nielsen has lost most or all of their experienced people.

As has been mentioned if they are offering you good money and you only plan on being there a year or two, you might want to try it. If you would prefer a company that you could stay at for more than that, Nielsen isn't it. You would probably get laid off when they decide that someone in Mexico or India can be trained to do your job.

I worked there 20+ years and would NEVER go back to Nielsen! For any amount of money!

"incremental revenue growth across client accounts" - You will never meet this goal with Nielsen's products and services.

Nielsen's client base faces continued headwinds and are not inclined to increase their budgets.

I took a job similar to yours in the NYC office in the early 2000s and only planned on staying for about 2 years. I ended up staying close to 20. Was it the money? No. However In those days Nielsen really felt like a family and it still had a pretty good name in the industry. You had brand recognition as far as trying to develop new products/rev streams, so you sort of always had a foot in the door with clients/prospects. Fast forward to 2026...is it the same? No. Probably not. But what company is. Nowadays companies are not loyal to their workers...and workers are reciprocating that back to companies. It's hard to find the person who has been with a company 20+ years anymore. With that said, I'm sure the NY people there now are still nice, smart and If somewhat motivated. Working in NY kind of does that to you. Just a vibe. So if the money is right and you think your manager(s) will be cool...might be worth taking the job for a year or so and see how it plays out. I know that Nielsen is now private and looking to likely be taken public again. There would be a lot of pressure on employees, especially those who generate revenue directly, to really hit and exceed goals. But I've been gone for several years as are many of the people I worked with...so hard for me to say what the environment is like today. There are tons of former Nielsen folks out there in the industry so having a link to those people down the road can never hurt.

hard pass, they will transfer your job to a GCC or you'll be made redundant as soon as they think they can. Maybe if you just want it on your resume for a bit or if the offer is really good.

Hard pass if you want to stay somewhere long term, if it’s good enough money (I doubt it) and you want to stay under 2 years then go for it.

Read the posts on this site for 5 minutes. Nielsen has been laying off hundred of people per year in the US and moving those jobs to India consistently for 5 years.
