Wells Fargo Faces Age Discrimination Claim From 50-Year Industry Vet

A former Wells Fargo Advisors broker in Brookfield, Wisconsin, has filed a lawsuit accusing the wirehouse of firing him because of his age.

Kenneth J. Schneider, who spent his entire 50-year career with Wells and predecessor firms, claimed that he was terminated at the age of 78 “for the sole pretextual reason” that he used a swear word in the office when talking with his wife, who also worked at the firm, according to a complaint filed last week in U.S. District Court in Wisconsin.

Local Wells managers had “been trying to get Schneider to retire for years,” and younger advisors were given more lenient, “progressive discipline” for similar violations of the firm’s professional conduct policies, according to the complaint.

“Wells Fargo willfully took adverse actions against Schneider because of his age,” the ex-broker’s lawyers wrote in the complaint.

Correction: we made $5B, not them. The execs never made a single sale or closed a single deal. While true that a great leader / visionary can bring a huge amount of value to the company, these HY clowns are neither. They are parasites, leeching off what we have produced.

WF will spend millions defending the case. They don't care about legal costs. Its all about doing what they want to do. 5 million spent on this case defending? Chump change! They made 5 BILLION last quarter after all expenses paid. Only way this person gets his payout is if the jury decides in his favor.

There is more to this story than what is reported here. He deserved to be fired after multiple warnings for numerous violations. This guy is an old school throwback. For a change Wells isn’t the bad guy in this one. Sorry to disappoint most of you.

I hope he wins the lawsuit. After what they've done to thousands of good workers. I hope he wins enough money that executives feel the sting in their pocket book. Don't care that he's old and probably should have retired 20 yrs ago. I bet they settle with him. Last thing the bank wants is to be in the news for age discrimination, even if it isn't true.

am i the only one who uses profanity at work -- not name-calling / harassment but just about general things (and only with employees who are friends)? gulp. i mean i know i shouldn't but hard not to whilst venting about all the constant effed-up-ness.

@a6 I hear you, but don't think there's any reason to take these claims at face value. Without all the facts or defense, it's a pretty big leap to infer discrimination being the reason- which there should also be more proof of (and maybe there is). Wells has been employing him as an old person for literal decades and this is all they have? What about all the other septuagenerian FA's?

At-will employment.

@a2 if this guy had the same kind of dementia trump is displaying he would have been fired for easily documentable cause

Not saying this guy shouldn't have retired years ago. But that doesn't excuse WF from needing to follow the law when it comes to age discrimination.

The president is only 1 year older than this guy and look how advanced his dementia is. You think someone choosing to work for Wells Fargo at that age is some stellar employee playing with a full deck of cards?
