Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

First layoff of the year

How long will the management give us in the new year before more layoffs? A month? A week? Or will there be some cuts next week, just to start the year off with a bang? If I'm being honest, that's something I would fully expect current leadership would do without a second thought.

Would be wonderful if T would recognize the most senior techs in the company that would be willing to leave if offered the opportunity to do so! They don't need 5/5/5 since that's not realistic anyway, just the opportunity to leave if they want to with whatever severance they are entitled to under their contract. It's not asking much!

I would imagine they will be staggering dates based on organizations to even out the workload.

Fact is, there will be substantial cuts in Q1; likely taking place on multiple dates depending on the org.

Mid jan individuals will be told, off payroll 1/31. This is not a rumor, it was announced at last Legg Q&A townhall.

I'm hearing February 17 for off role March 3.

All these dates being thrown around are just rumors. The fact that many people will be gone in Q1 is no rumor since this has been communicated multiple times from upper mismanagement about their intentions.

Duh, the company obliviously needed the workers when they were hired. Hmm, I wonder why they aren’t wanted now?

Layoffs to rid the company of unneeded workers. Don't need workers if there isn't work for them. It's called running a business.

It has nothing to do with current management decisions. The company is ill, layoffs are consistent here due to lack of business planning, in other words they have no idea how to right the ship. They have been trying for the past 5 years…margins are gone, technology is lagging competitors and it’s is simply not sustainable. Layoffs will never, I repeat never stop here. Make as much money as possible until they tap you on the shoulder, because it will certainly come. For those that think they are immune from surplus, I have a bridge to sell you. To see how many people drink the koolaide and think everything is fine, just look at the down votes below. Those are the people with their heads in the sand….

Well, who knows. In the past T has been kind enough to keep their mass layoffs restricted to once per quarter, which would mean unless you've been notified, you have until the end of Feb to worry about getting the call.

But then again, Stink is the kind of proactive go-getter that may just start announcing on Jan 2. His unbounded energy, intelligence, charisma, and near clairvoyant understanding of the market is a rare commodity, you know.

Per the contract, craft was already informed on Dec 15 2022 for the 1st. quarter of 2023 layoffs. Probably will rank and turn in their choices in February after being contacted by HR. They have until sometime in March for their options to take effect, either taking any available vacancies, bumping, job bank or if they put in for SIPP, off payroll and retire.

Per contract, the next informed date for craft like always is on the 15th of last month proceeding the next quarter. Like clockwork, March 15, June 15, September 15, December 15. Nice to have a contractual process.

The next management layoff is only known by VP and above with a terrible process and quick off payroll date, 2 weeks. So until it happens it’s all speculation and even if a specific group is informed of a number no one really knows who or exactly when until the last minute. Usually you either get the call or told to meet with your manager if you are lucky. Some only get a call to inform them of layoff then security meets them to escort them out on the off date, like a criminal. Terrible way to treat long time employees.

This will happen ASAP in January. Management has been preparing for this next round of re-organization based on the general expectations of the number of senior-higher paid employees who were impacted by the pension interest rate voluntarily leaving Hints I'm getting is that the majority of business units will see some number of reductions in headcount and/or the continuation of the current back-fill or new hiring freezes

They have all ready stated that ATS management will be informed mid January. I’m sure more to follow.

My guess is that they will come pretty quickly. They have had the necessary time to quantify and consider the retirement numbers from last quarter. As always, what will result is the stagnation of workflow for ongoing projects that have lots of different organizations involved. I don't think they care about it honestly, but basically things tend to grind to a halt with the cycle of layoff/ reorg.
