Leadership induced hunger games and backstabbing has ki-led any risktaking behaviour, you open nike.com and you see safe bets all around the assortment. Plain, colorless, black, baggy and has no motion with current street or sport culture.
LEGO is doing more for world cup than Nike and that should reveal something.

@OP Good thing about being super big like Nike. You can scale and use its size to achieve leverage that small companies can't.
Bad thing about being too big will be unable to move fast, be nimble and more contact with reality. This is the purgatory where Nike is stuck now!!
