Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Job Application

Hi folks! I applied and landed an interview for an AI position. The hiring manager seems excited after our interview. What should I expect if hired? I was happy until I read some of these posts..but now I’m scared

I’m so glad I left. You don’t want to work here. I mean that.

I'm a cloud engineer that has been here for around 8 years and I'm really happy to be here, culture is great, good wlb, nice people, and amazing office in RB. There will always be unhappy people on the layoff you can't use this place to make your decision, maybe reach out to people on LinkedIn they might be more honest than here. A lot of people here don't do their jobs and then whine when they get shown the door, I expect downvoted but it's reality. I'd give it a go if you get an offer

@q4 A happy attitude will go far on the unemployment line.

I joined fairly recently and can say this is the most miserable culture I’ve experienced in 15+ years. Seriously regretting joining.

@ds So funny I knew I'd probably break downvote records for saying I am happy... no surprises on that.

The pay is so good we cant even give merit increases in order to pay new people coming in.

I laughed when someone said TD pays well. I remember a leadership call where pay issues were brought up and the C level said "pay isn't everything" word for word. So easy for someone getting paid so much to say that and be so disconnected from the reality their employees are going through. BTW I went and hosted a few hackatons at colleges up the cost. Every hackaton, every single one of them, a student that was interested in opportunities at TD would ask "I heard the pay isn't competitive".

Ugh hahaha

Look, for the poster, know you have worth. Doesn't hurt to look at the menu but know what you are ordering. If you want to go through with this, cool, but do not belittle yourself and more importantly your skills, just keep that in the back of your mind as you go through this.

I got laid off 9 months after starting at Teradata. I basically wasted a year of my life when I could have been working somewhere else.

Basically it was day 2 when I started and something felt off. The culture was depressive, people just didn't care and there were people being laid off in the same week I was starting so it felt weird.

You're just a number on a spreadsheet at Teradata. They will happily delete you to save their own bacon and you won't get a second chance. Toxic people, toxic leaders and just not worth it

@ds it anticipates downvotes as it types, the narcissist hyperbole. No harm in trying? Do not promote self harm to unsuspecting individuals. Clueless low form of life, vomits word salad without any substance, lies; a disappointment. It claims to work at teradata, well there you go.

I have worked for Teradata for 9 years and it is the best job I think I have ever had. It has paid the most (and I am not the highest paid by any means in my role probably because I have been here a long time). I'm learning every day. I have had many managers who I have enjoyed working for. Yes we have had a lot of layoffs, but so has Amazon, Microsoft, Tesla, Google and everyone in the technology space. I am sure that I will be downvoted for my positive post but I don't care. I do have great respect for our CPO - he is doing a great job and is a great speaker and has true passion for the work. If you take a job here and like it more power to you. If you don't like it you can leave. I say try it and see how it goes. No harm it trying it out.

Yup when I was interviewing, I was talked up how great it is, and how bright the future looks, and all the typical smoke and mirrors. I ended up quitting less than 2 years later due to the horrible work environment, constant re-orgs, priorities and layoffs. No job has ever affected my mental health in a worse way than Teradata.
I could not recommend working there any less.

@OP STOP, turn around and run the opposite direction of teradata employment. Please do not do it to yourself. Now, if you are one of few posters in this forum and your question is some narcissist hyperbole, well you got me.

If the interview is real, know that the hiring manager's enthusiasm is fake. The same person got rid of skilled people with a straight face, because the "business" demanded it. Layoff is SOP around here. If a manager says they are hiring because teradata is growing or may see growth, they are liar. They are hiring so that they can sprinkle some younger folks in next round of layoff to be compliant to EEO guidance.

Teradata has nothing to do with AI or leading edge technology. The product is solid but the industry has moved on. It is impossible to renovate this technology to meet current expectation, but it is also very sticky to current customer base. The few existing customers realize teradata has no more runway left to transform itself. Everyone wants to exit, yet still paying renewals. Since they run at least one critical piece of their business on teradata. The same companies also keep their mainframe humming.

The grit and determination needed to turn around teradata does not exist in board room. The "leadership" and "board" neither intend nor capable of steering anything. They are dealing with DUI and unethical acquaintance at a personal level. The "management" level reporting these characters are either waiting for severance or cannot find another job. All the good ones are gone or forced out.

If your question is real, please do not interview any more. Even if you are on your last dollar, please do not do this. However, if you are that brave heart who must experience it first hand, please consider investing on a commercial grade gas mask and coveted therapist.

@OP do not do this.

Dont expect Teradata to open any doors on your resume after they lay you off in 6 months.

You’re not an indentured servant. If you don’t like it, you can find another position.

Don't be scared about what you read here, I had an offer to join Teradata and read the comments here got scared and declined joining. I still have quite stable employment but I'm not growing and my technical skills are getting worse were I'm at but on the bright side I think my job is more stable, but I also would have gotten a 40k bump and promotion had I joined Teradata. If you think the role is a fit I'd go for it focus on your team and what the skills are. I do lurk this forum time to time as some of the threads are entertaining to read
