Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Everyone Keeps Acting Normal. But A Lot of People Aren’t Okay.

It feels like a lot of people are carrying quiet exhaustion right now.
The layoffs.

The uncertainty.

The pressure to “be grateful.
”
The full-time RTO mandates after building lives around flexibility.

The feeling that everyone is pretending things are normal when they clearly aren’t.
If you’re struggling mentally, emotionally, or physically from all of this, you are not alone.
A lot of us are waking up anxious, doomscrolling before work, feeling guilty for not being productive enough, or trying to hold it together while watching teammates disappear overnight. It’s heavy. And pretending it isn’t only makes people feel more isolated.

A few reminders for anyone having a hard time:

  • Your worth is not tied to your badge access, productivity score, or performance review.
  • Fear is an exhausting long-term motivator. Rest is not weakness.
  • Staying connected to people matters more right now than acting “fine.”
  • Small routines help: sleep, water, walks, sunlight, boundaries, logging off when you can.
  • If work is consuming your identity, try to reclaim one small thing that belongs only to you.
Most importantly: check on the quiet people too. Sometimes the people saying the least are carrying the most.
This is a dark season for a lot of workers right now. But I hope we can at least make it lighter for each other by being human again.

@dj that's on point. I bet a lot of people will be jumping ship after this year once the return to office kicks in and bonuses pay out.

I feel bad for those so indoctrinated by corporate culture that they'd rather put other people down than address the elephant in the room.

Feel bad for all these people but also makes me wonder if certain people should have ever been in work place. Toughen up and move on. Or work and why we get paid.

Someone in upper leadership should speak up and tell her she’s ruining the company

My department head addressed the mental strain by pulling some Inside Out rubbish on us.

Tell yourself that's enough, Anxiety. Hello, Joy, how are you?

I wish I was joshing.

Someone said this in another post but I think it fits here too.

If a workplace is creating so much stress that employees are being told to talk to a therapist, maybe leadership should reflect on what that says about the environment.

Thank you for posting this. I had ONE Lyra appt with a psychiatrist and went into psychosis from the meds that were prescribed. I was at a breaking point with work at fido, the benefit was suggested by a co worker. Always consult with your own independent doctor before. It might be quicker to get a Lyra appt but it’s not worth the risk of taking meds that aren’t right for you! Thinking of all who are affected during this time. Hope you are taking care of yourself and are supported by those around you.

Funny that they are promoting Lyra mental health. She doesn’t give a sh1t about our mental health. Take care of yourselves and work your wage.

When I was laid off, I thought a coworker was calling to check on me to see how I was doing. He literally said “sorry about your luck, but what does this mean for me”

Thanks for taking the time to post this, everything you said is on the money.. One thing I want to add is that everyone should make sure they do not ruminate.

Its easy for a lot of people to make this so much worse on themselves than it should be, especially those who have emotionals sensitivity inextricably linked to their identity. It is undeniably reasonable for this to negatively impact the mental health and overall daily lives of every employee..

Its easy to give this way more power over you than it deserves, and can take control of your life if you put too much weight into the worst of this.. allowing it to do exponentially more harm than it warrants. Keep your head up, there is ALWAYS something better ahead.. What seems like an extreme tragedy in the moment, will eventually be known as the event that changed their lives for the better and was the catalyst that pushed them into something so unbelievably great.
