I have an offer thats paying 20k less and its in person. considering taking it for sanity. someone talk me out of it. all things considered, I can afford the salary hit with relatively little changes other than amount saved.

If you are in line for a severance then why would you not just take advantage of Pluralsight and other training opportunities, and just wait it out?
If you really like the other job opportunity then fine, but if you have to come out here asking for someone to talk you out of it then it doesn't sound like you are that confident in it.
Quietly quit, build up your skills, do what is required of you and then just wait for the RIF and then look for a job. Given how many people are laid off across the country on a seemingly daily basis, it's not going to be any better or worse later.
Always weigh the full package as part of your decision.
Less pay is not ideal, but with increases can you get back to the level? Also workplace health is huge, less stress, better work life balance, mental health, etc.
So you are remote now and will be working in an office? I'd be factoring in more than just the 20K in hard salary. How much of your life is going to be spent on the road commuting and getting ready for work? If it is going to be like 10 hours a week that is 520 hours a year (less vacation weeks) so giving up 20+ days of your life to be on the road. You can't get back time.
@OP why is the new job better, and could you one day think..you know maybe the cr-p at the FIS job was worth it for the extra $1600pm.
The doom mongers on here just say take the job because it fits with their narrative but is the grass greener.
I’d take it, it’ll be better for your mental health then going through waves of layoffs until it eventually impacts you
Go for it!
Negotiate the salary higher? Not being remote is worth 50k alone, that's a big hit imo more than the actual salary cut.
Take the new job, you’ll be happier. I took a new job that came with a pay cut and I’m much happier. Work life balance is back in sync.
