Thread regarding Charter Communications Inc. layoffs

charter should be sued in a class action over this...

you can’t keep bringing in h1b workers and h1/l1 contractors, then turn around and lay off u.s. citizens and permanent residents in the same job profiles like nobody is going to notice.

maybe there is some legal explanation buried in the paperwork. maybe.

but from the outside, it looks pretty simple: replace domestic workers with visa-dependent labor, call it “restructuring,” and hope everyone is too tired or too scared to push back.

someone should be looking at this closely. not with another internal review. with subpoenas.

DOW is up 800 pts today, meanwhile we just hit a new 52 week low. SP continuing to promote her cronies from cablevision. Corruption drove this company to the ground.

@ar I think what we all need to keep in mind is that discrimination based on protected class, which includes national of origin, also covers US workers.

If a disproportionate rate of US workers are terminated the company would need to prove that it was not discriminatory to the US workers.

Everyone needs to be prepared to file suits if that’s how things go.

It’s out of control, I am the last American on my team, now they are hiring all their family members.

Most of them are Telugus.

Besides H1B, don’t forget EAD

@ar agreed, but the OP said there are also H1B contractors. Should be US citizens who are contractors in this job market.

Lot of h1b's were laid off during re-org late last year. Charter stopped immigration once and for all, no PERM/I140, H1b transfer or internships to F1 students. They are only keeping the existing workers, for now. Who knows what might happen in next re-org.

Just because they are in same job profiles does not mean they are equally skilled. My team has have both h1 and citizens and only 2 folks are good, one citizen and one h1... rest are all clueless. I do agree that when these h1's are sitting in breakrooms chatting all day, it makes you question if they are actually worthy of a job.

Bringing in contractors does not matter to Charter, the manager approves the role and budget and someone comes in and get the work done and leaves. FTE's are indirect burden to Charter when it comes to benefits that company has to pay.

I don't think suing is really an option given charter is EEO and company has right to hire anyone that fits the criteria. Worst case, they will hire contractors across Asia and south america to keep the company running. All we gotta hope is to wait the economy to get better, until then we keep head down and keep working
