Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We would have benefited from staying in our lane

T is like an enormous dinosaur lumbering through the telecom space. Had we cared for the aging dinosaur by making sure our fiber footprint and customer service were robust, we could have survived the times we are in now.

Instead we tried to weave ourselves into sectors we had no business in and come up with gimmicky BS to seem cutting edge.

Putting funding and focus into those pursuits made us quietly fall behind. Now we’re like a cringey guy in the throes of a midlife crisis trying to date 20 year olds and who have zero interest while neglecting his family that is rapidly falling apart.

Nothing is working and the company looks stupid as he-l flopping around trying to ensure everyone that things are going great and AT&T is cool.

No worries, the new BILLION dollar HQ will solve all the problems and won’t raise the T debt at all!

Taking the risk was not the issue. The lack of any real plan after making the acquisitions was the issue. T bought stuff and tried to manage it like they had Telecom. He-l, even the big Stank said he knew nothing about media when he was given the "keys to truck" and he proceeded to drive the truck into the ditch. The only plan Stank had was to stop doing what was working.

This happened how man years ago? And now you are realizing it? Maybe you should wait a few more years to figure out if we should have stayed in our lane?

@az Interesting. what makes you assume I’m low level?

If we’re making baseless assumptions, I’d guess you have more in common with low level employees than the c-suite.

“We would have benefited from staying in our lane”

Hilarious to see a low level employee post a message about staying in the right lane.

@ah wireless and internet have parity. DTV, Time Warner, Xandr, etc. do not. I’m sure you’re smart enough to understand this. If not, you might just have what it takes to be in the c-suite.

@ah T is a telecom company; Internet was a natural progression. Trying to be in entertainment was a total blunder and then a further blunder when the company undersold while trying to escape the massive misstep.

Good thing we didn't stay in our lane when we got into that Internet thing.

@ae spot on. These poor leadership decisions will ultimately lead to the demise of the company. This is getting ugly, fast.

@ad the whole point is how obvious it all is. Even in the face of these obvious facts we keep pushing id--tic and draconian measures on our employees while we try to seem hip for the youngins. It’s embarrassing how obviously bad our direction continues to be and yet nothing is being done on the higher levels to fix it.

It’s time for the stink to retire and let someone else try to right the ship. This has been a disaster. Blinded after blunder. It’s pathetic.
