H-1Bs Behaving Badly

Does anyone else endure bad behavior by H-1Bs in the office? My office is chock full of them and they routinely speak at volumes that are more suitable for an NFL game. They also stare at me way too long and it makes me uncomfortable.

@zz The smartest person I have ever worked with were both Americans. They did not even have a master's degree but they were absolute geniuses, like they can do atleast 10 people's work. But they both quit because their american managers given they were micr managing... their managers were ex-military so they were very picky on how people do the job than actually getting job done. Most of Indian managers I met were honestly laid back, they don't care until you get them in trouble.

So no, I don't think Indians are smarter than americans. Most of us fall in same range of smartness and few exceptions where there are absolute geniuses and few who cannot understand a thing no matter how many times you explain. I got one h1 on my team like that, no idea how he got a job honestly. But OP did not say being mistreated by their directors or leaders, but more of people staring which is weird imo.

@yq NO, don’t mind your own business when it comes to H-1Bs. That is what got us where we are at in the first place. We were all trying to be open-minded and were worried about appearing racially intolerant. And now all our (American citizens) are having all out jobs su-ked up by persons from other countries, just because it saves corporations money.

It is not persons from other country’s fault but if I am being completely honest, I have spoken enough with persons one country in particular and they seem to deem us Americans as not being very bright in comparison to them.

Also, some of the Directors from that country seem to have a desire to have the ability to monitor every move remote workers make. It is simply exhausting and people who are constantly being monitored fond it difficult to be innovative with ideas, if they are not happy workers and feel someone constantly watching their every move.

So, no, in this particular case I say do NOT mind your own business. Stick up for yourself and for your coworkers if you see them being abused and treated rudely by Directors on H-1B Visas.

You must work for ICE if you can look at someone and know their visa status. THey might be staring at you coz you were staring at them to begin with. Mind your business and you will be fine.

How do you know thier immigration status and that is H1B. Is it because they look certain way? Or they all told you their immigration status?
This is called racial profiling

@ng Pretty sure a thorough vetting of the degree, university and accredition of the universities occurs for H1Bs happens. There are independent agencies that do the vetting. There will always be a few that slip through the cracks. As an attorney I am familiar with this process.

I see a lot of non-H1Bs loud and shrill on the phones all day long, with nary a care. H1Bs are people like everyone else. They are not a separate species

@ng Spot on. YouTuber Tyler Oliveira exposed this situation (in Texas) not long ago.

@n9 clarifying my own post - if a company has more than 15% of its workforce made up of H1B visa holders they have to “make a good faith effort” to fill the position with a US citizen first. Also the sponsored individual must have “specialized” knowledge and usually at least a bachelors degree. Will be curious to see if Elevance audits all the current H1B workers given the recent news of a huge bust of a diploma mill scam in India with 100k degrees from
28 fake universities.😮

@mt H1B is a type of visa where a US company can sponsor a non US citizen to live and work in the US. The requirement is that the job must be posted and no US citizen is available to fill the job before it is open to a foreign applicant. Given the amount of Elevance layoffs and the overall unemployment rate one would question if that is the case. When you see an Elevance posting with an obscure requirement like a software program created by the hiring manager and shared with his friend - it is a listing that has been queued up for an H1B buddy. Recent news articles have indicated that many offshore universities especially in India do not even exist. To minimize H1B exploitation there is a 100k fee for sponsorship. In addition there are news stories about kickbacks for these visas. H1B visa hokders may be exploited as the employer has the ability to deport them

Do we have h1b first then offshoring, or offshoring first then h1b?
How do we stop offshoring?

It sounds like the office is really helping build teamwork chemistry. I'm glad that people of every background and status seem to be agreeing on this one fact, it's helping.

I don't know I endure a ton of bad behavior from other associates when I am in the office for no good reason except I am forced to go into the office. All of them are straight up white americans who don't need to talk to members and are irritated about burning their paycheck for gas for no good reason. They are pretty loud, steal stuff and don't clean up after themselves.

This OP sounds pretty triggerd by "H-!B's". Stare back .
