Respectful 2 Weeks Notice

Debating on giving 2 week notice for a Grade 12 position but concerned they could turn around and fire me. Thoughts?

I don’t usually advocate for being fake, but in this case, it makes sense to play the long game. Give two weeks notice, do bare minimum, and do not go into the office. They wouldn’t fire you. That expose them to legal liability. Instead, they would pay you out two weeks and send you on your way.

If they immediately fire, file for unemployment and you will get 1 week payment after 1 week waiting period. Cool thing is this will increase the bank’s state unemployment insurance experience rating!

This is not likely since HR knows this.

Maybe give one month and they might keep you on payroll but not actually work. If they still make you come in for butt-in-chair time, just quit day before new job.

Two paychecks for a two week period. Put extra money in IRA.

Are you talking about a Grade 12 within the company? They're not going to fire you for taking a new role internally.

Laws are different per each state. You are not granted automatic pay if dismissed after turning in your two week notice, as you are the one resigning.
However, I have never known of anyone in my years at the bank get dismissed early without receiving their pay.
2 Portfolio Managers I know quit within the last three months.
Upon turning in their notice, they had access cutoff with 24 hours, and were told they no longer need to come in to work. But they did get paid. For the final two weeks.

They need to have justification for termination or you could take up legal action. As someone previously stated, they may release you before your two weeks but they are legally obligated to pay.

Few thoughts:

1) I think that's extremely unlikely. Have never seen it happen here.

2) For the tiny percent chance that happens, you're risking potentially losing 2 weeks of pay for a potentially better reference or opportunity to rejoin the company in the future. Choose which is more important to you.

I would always give 2 weeks notice absent something really abusive or illegal.
