Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Easy paycheck, but...

It is interesting how many people write that they do almost nothing and that easy work is the reason why they are still here. Are you not worried that your skills will atrophy?
In my case it's not like that, I do enough work for two people and I can't "brag" about an easy paycheck, but on the other hand, I would never stay somewhere where I couldn't keep my skills sharp.

I’m woke and do the work for three, Me, Myself and I. Where’s my equitable pay?

you get the skills that at&t has for your exact job, believe me you are not ready to enter the real technology world and never will be if you have been cloned into a at&t job with a specific title and description. your career path is pretty much set and limited

What a waste of money. What is wrong with these huge corporations, no wonder they sell overpriced services! Consumers paying for the wasted salaries GIVEN to Design Engineers/technology operations that all work from home. Supporting each other, covering up for the few hours - FEW hours a week actually worked. Usually means responding to a few emails, staying logged in so it records that you actually logged in.
Writing "fluffy" performance letters.. "hey just go in once a month, so it shows with your badge"
Gaming, social media, napping, basically cruising through a three figure overpaid salary. Not to mention using their "given and paid for" company phone and laptop for all things personal.
Your boss, backs you up, as you cover for him, his boss backs him up as he covers for them, etc. etc. The good old boy, who knows who, who lies for who.. PNW Tech Operations/Mobility you are embarrassing. You know who you are, we see you.

Reward the actual employees that work their butts off, not these couch potatoes.

Nothing wrong with continuing to work until you are ready to retire for whatever reason. It can be for more social security, healthcare coverage for family, waiting till medicare age, lack of retirement savings, waiting on severance, just want to continue to work, etc…

If you are already skilled, near retirement and feel secure in your position then you shouldn’t have to sharpen skills unless something new comes along. The issue comes from the few that have a lack work ethics and an entitlement attitude that they deserve severance after 30 years service. What is happening to American pride, rugged individualism and earn what you deserve? Now it seems a lot want to be victims, everything offends them, want top pay without merit and are entitled to freebies.

A few in the group of outside technicians I work with have over 40 years are great craftsmen and professional, they work hard, still care about customer service and have integrity. They are mentors and great examples to me and others, they could choose to be slackers but their character shows. I have 24 years svc and take pride in being a professional too, also continue to improve my skills as a craftsman and try to mentor others new to the title. Your work ethic is a reflection on oneself.

Retaining or sharpening your skills doesn't matter anymore when you have 35+ years under your belt. That's when you're actually hoping to get laid off which is why so many craft employees stick around hoping for the severance pay.

There are plenty of us that have character and work hard, there are also a lot of trolls that try to project on here.

Yes we know in a big company like AT&T some slackers of low character without morals are quiet quitting and fall through the cracks but Karma will catch up. If not now, retirement or somewhere else in your life. I encourage you to have some pride, integrity and work ethics, despite what you think of leadership. You will be a better person and example for others in your circle of friends and family.

There are plenty of things to earn ones pay when slow ie… housekeeping, organization and other low priorities like training, catching up on e-mails etc.. whether it’s in the office or your company vehicle . Being productive and innovative is what made America great, quiet quitting is a quick way to failure. If everyone followed that ideal who do you think is going to fund your social security (Ponzi scheme) and national debt won’t be serviced. 3rd world country status here we come!

This time of year is usually slow, nothing new, it’s even more so since spending was paused. It will pick back up after the layoffs and the new budget is released.

Well good for you do the work of two people. I do the work of one, when they have work.
Otherwise, my boss tells me to look busy. So I move the truck every 25 minutes.
Park By huts near coffee shops and get coffee. Shop near manholes. Nap.
If there's work I'm right on it. Maybe 2 hours a day.
You keep ki----g yourself for this place.
But know, they hate you.
they are clueless as to how little work we outside techs have.
Love it, and going no where with 36 years.

Why do you people keep talking about skills? When you get enough years you stop worrying about anything since you'll never get cut. Congrats to them. Let them enjoy it. Never retire.
