Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This strategy doesn't work

Unless the goal is downsizing or losing customers, the company's business strategy does not work at all.It seems that this is already clear to everyone, except for the leaders who cannot recognize that their strategy isn't working.
The question is why is it failing?
Perhaps our highly compensated leaders should put their ears to the ground and start listening.

I can only speak to what is happening in the CO’s (Central Offices) in my area. They are in a major market and until recently when leadership decided to put the brakes on for stock investors and budget reasons, we were covered up with fiber work. All layoffs aren’t nefarious because of bad management (there has been plenty of that last 10+ yrs) and more than a few are a direct result of the following:

They are decommissioning a lot of legacy systems or consolidating others until they can be transitioned over to the newer more technologically advanced fiber systems. It is making and saving a lot of (tax, labor, energy, real estate) money, of course with the migration the result is the company doesn’t need as many employees to support and maintain products with the business. Examples of outdated or older products; pay phones, pagers, operators, long distance calling rates, watts, dial-up, Isdn, dsl, ifitel, fax machines, pots has transitioned to VOIP, analog to digital cell phones, better reach on fixed wireless technologies, automated payment systems, etc… technology moves on and the company has to adapt to survive and hopefully prosper once again.

Failure to execute? GTFOH!

Ratty and Stinky's stratagy transformed T into Toxic-T and k i l l e d T and got them tens of millions!

Those two and the sleeping BoD are to blame.

I own a buggy whip company & have not sold 1 since 1904.
I've got a few hundred thousand mfg at the turn of the previous century.
Original buggy whips for sale. Antiques.
Lots and lots of stock on hand.
Can quick start the re-manufacture with illegal migrants.
Company offered for "quick sale" to qualified buyer.

AT&T? Interested? FOR SALE!

DTV was a very soon to be obsolete technology for entertainment resources that was too costly and the public was tired of it! Streaming was on its way into the mainstream just around the time T decided they couldn't survive without DTV! Failing to execute had nothing to do with its failure. Cable/satellite tv is just too damn expensive and people don't need it anymore in order to get its favorite channels!

The strategy is to give all of us employees a wake up call that the business can fail. It's like no one here realizes the DTV Warner and Xandr businesses failed because we failed to execute well.

I'm on the front lines face-to-face with customers in Business Services and around 25% of the time it's nothing but complaints from the customers before I even start installing the equipment! The complaints vary, but let me assure you they can all be prevented if ATT management would engage and get their heads out of their a$$e$! Most of the complaints are embarrassing to hear and I just have to take it because quite frankly, there is no excuse for such incompetence! Too many employees working for T no longer care and I along with many other field personnel have to deal with it daily! It's really too bad!

What surprises me is I haven’t read about the thousands of jobs being sent to India. I’ve read countless times our USA customers hate having to understand them when they call. We speak English here and overseas they try to speak English but Customers and coworkers cannot understand their attempts. I reluctantly have to believe profits are more important than Customer satisfaction with this Leadership decisions and know we’re loosing revenue when customers leave Att.

“The strategy is working good. We are growing mobility and getting rid of unneeded workers. Sounds like our leaders put their ears on the ground and listened to the music and singing a new tune.”

This could not be further from the truth folks….fantasy post of the month.

Turning this mess around is like turning around a big top-heavy ocean liner - they spent years and literally hundreds of billions of dollars going in one direction & now have to turn around and go back in a totally different direction. It's going to take years & a lot of crew will have to be thrown overboard for the captain to can save himself.

Stank & Co. can get us back to mediocrity, but to get back on top everyone in the Dallas HQ clown car would need to go & that'll never happen.

It’s a conundrum that can only be address by applying rudimentary practices and removing idiosyncrasies.
