Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Am I Alone?

Is anyone else feeling a deep sense of dread and depression about the current state of things here? It feels like the soul has been completely su-ked out of the place under the current direction and leadership. Shifting goalposts, corporate decisions that make no sense to the people doing the actual work, and a toxic atmosphere have made just showing up a massive emotional weight.

Am I completely alone in this? Are we all just putting on a brave face, or has morale hit absolute rock bottom for everyone else too?

S&T Finance morale is non-existent. Market risk manager is peacing out. Compliance manager checked out. Rotating credit managers.

What's worse is director MY wants to do more with less while having zero charisma to inspire employees. Person does not have any life whatsoever sending mails over the weekend and at night. No one was able to see MY as an appealing social partner so she gives all to CVX and expects her employees to do the same while micro-managing them.

@e0 my severance package was fairly large too, morale is very high!

@fk CVX does not care about expensive “experienced” workers leaving, everyone is replaceable including your ego

@e0 problem1 is too many Chevron lifers think they can't leave. Problem 2 is they will continue to feel stuck until they act on a remedy. Be empowered to leave and take control of your mental hess as others and future.

@fj why can't you leave? Are you PSG 28+? Doubt it, go find your job fit with another company.

@fk just leave, find a job with a company you fit in with culturally and go.

@ct
I would be happy to get a layoff package to move away from Chevron. Bring it on!
The problem is Chevron is using forced rankings in the next PMP to force people out without a package. I have worked at chevron for 25+ years and i wasn’t eligible for the last package and now Chevron is trying to get the experienced workers to create documentation for younger inexperienced and cross train people who make less money to replace us. It took me 30+ years to learn the things I have experienced, I can’t just teach a new person how to gain 30 years experience in 18 months.

@e0
Not everyone gets a big severance payout. My job position was out of scope and I could not take the package nor post for a new position. I would love to have an opportunity to get a big severance package and leave for a new company.

Consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity to leave Chevron behind.

@dq many of the new leadership people are very insecure and don’t take kindly to anything other than fawning yes-men in their org. Even asking a question is seen as an affront. I was in a similar position as you and just gave my notice last week now they realize they need me but 2 more days and I’m done and on to a much smaller company with a much more collaborative culture. I can’t wait to be out of this circus.

@dq Let me guess, you are white or brown, will work long hours, take a lot of pride in your work, very popular and was being seriously considered for a promotion just a year or two ago. You made the mistake of asking to go up one grade this year and leadership has put a target on you because you won’t fight back, complain to HR and your mentors in other teams cannot do anything to help. They have identified a mid 30s female for your next role and need you out of the way no matter your value or support you have. Small emails or conversations are made a big deal of how you are not following company policy whether your bought lunch for an operational team or did not have a process in place to pay a vendor even if you did not initiate the work. Advice: either stand up by going to hr or fill out something anonymous. This happens day in day out, because one vp does not want another vp to become their boss, so hurt the peer by eliminating highest value adding employees that could make the other vp successful. You are not female or Latino. If you don’t stand up and get demoted, you will suffer rest of your career. Best option is to gain visibility on li and find another job in another team or company asap.

My morale is high after a big severance payout and stock vesting then landing a better job. You're not stuck there, leave! If you've only worked for Chevron, you have no idea how rewarding a career can actually be.

I have worked here a long time and it has never even been close to how dysfunctional, chaotic, and bleak as it is today.

I was told a long time ago …. there is a reason why they pay you to show up everyday. If it was all fun and games … other people would pay themselves to be here.

I am being targeted by new leadership. It's something I've never experienced in my career. I could not be more disenfranchised. (And before you say it, previous reviews were stellar and received performance ltip)

Wish you all luck. Hopefully, you don't land in my world where there are no more jobs anymore. What jobs there are you compete with thousands of others like you and your resume has to ATS compatible. Submit your resume into the black hole and never being contacted by the company you applied to that they moved on with someone else or the job wasn't available anyways. Have your options open, because you may need to career pivot like many others already have.

Great advice on the gym or a walk. This feeling of malaise or chronic unease is not a CVX specific phenomenon. It’s felt and recognized is many oil companies. It’s the burden of years of merging and consolidating and never ending initiatives…and the whole DEI roll out that created tension and distrust…the surprising element is that production is so high with such low moral…just wait till declines and low oil prices happen…then everyone will be enjoying the next round of layoffs

Go to lunch with a colleague you rarely know but looks like they got it all figured out and will realize we are all figuring stuff out on the go. Hit the gym, go for a run if you can. Do something to break the cycle of daily routine. It can help to reset the mind.

No, you're not alone if you're working alongside me, who has to pay bills and feed a family, only I am happy that I'm not still doing manual labor like I did for the first 2 decades of my working life, and I am getting paid much more. But of course, I could sit and complain and whine all day, yet I don't 'cause it's not doing me nor you any good.
Good luck.

Definitely not alone. I really hope they offer the severance package one more time so it will take me through retirement.

I don’t think any of the US employees thought it was going to be like this else more of us would have raised our hands and AEOI’d.

Morale is at a complete low. The incompetence is staggering. Completely broken workflows, zero trust, toxic work environment, disorganization, layers of systems and processes that don’t work. ENGINE is the background as well. Also the new performance review forced ranking system is coming for the first time. People are exhausted including me. I’m completely burnt out with the dysfunction

You are not alone. The distinction and toxicity is continuing to build. It’s evident we are still on the decline and I anticipate rock bottom somewhere early to mid 2027. Easily one of the most broken companies I’ve ever worked for. You can see it in the CES results. Everyday is an absolute slog but we need the money so we have to continue. People are also leaving left and right but they said they don’t care. That’s the whole point. It’s designed to try and get you to leave.

Definitely not alone. You described pretty much what my everyday feels like coming into work. All time low, with anyone who used to care and contribute to a good working environment out the door. I’ll add on to your list that I’m also working more due to leadership incompetence/disorganization and unrealistic demands.
