When Musk took over twitter, he immediately started cutting costs because twitter was losing money. Musk not only cut head count, but he also cut many employee perks like free chef prepared lunches and free onsite massages. As well, he dismantled overly redundant infrastructure. The big difference between T and twitter is that T was very profitable while twitter was rarely profitable.
