Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike is my first job out of college. I started working at the Portland office two months ago.

I have been picking up vibes that a lot of Nike employees here I interact with are antifa. They are pretty open about it and wear it as a badge of honor. I'm trying to steer clear of these weirdos.

You work at Nike, at their Portland office? That’s strange. I didn’t know we had a Portland office. Now, Nike is full of clueless liberal a--hats, but your post and you claim to be is still sus.

Viral Video Shows Visitor Describing Aggressive Street Encounter in Portland Oregon : “Police Didn’t Do Anything”

A viral video on X shows a man visiting Portland, Oregon, describing an encounter with an apparently aggressive unhoused person in downtown.

"Downtown Portland Oregon really, really has a big old mess of a situation going on — This guy was just tweaking out, and the police didn't even do anything," he says in the video. "Guy was ripping up trash cans, throwing sh*t on the floor, everything. I was like, uh, okay….and the security guard's like, yeah, you might want to cross the street, this guy's kind of aggressive. I was like, and the law isn't going to do anything?"

Portland Visitor Questions Police Response After Street Confrontation

One commenter wrote, "Police in Portland dont do anything for alot of stuff because the DA refuses to prosecute any of it. they arrest these people and than see them back on the street within 15 minutes doing the same sh-t. with no repercussions."

The commenter appeared to be referring to Oregon's cite-and-release policy, which allows officers in some situations to issue a citation instead of taking someone into custody. Supporters say cite-and-release policies can reduce jail populations and conserve law enforcement resources.

The video also includes a woman who says she has repeatedly been released after encounters with police.

What is Portland's cite-and-release policy exactly?
How do local officials justify cite-and-release policies?
What are the long-term effects of these policies?
Cite-and-release policies have generated debate among residents and public officials. While a few are grateful that less arrests can lead to more money being spent towards the public, others argue that the lack of accountability is doing nothing for the long term.

The video prompted debate in the comments, with some users criticizing Portland's public safety policies

@k9 Because the current conservative party doesn't stand for any values, they can only rely on hypocrisy and projection. It's sad how far what used to be a respectable party has fallen.

@k3, wow, you know 99% of the time we project. When one finger is pointing at others, there are 4 are pointing back. If I were you, I'd be looking in the mirror; there might be something inside hurting badly.

Most of the Portland Antifa trash here have had multiple arrest. These losers can't hold down a job are on welfare, section 8 and SNAP. Will fake a disability to scam a monthly disability check. Trash is what antifa is.

@je Portland is not business friendly totally agree! However is Los Angeles the solution? There Nike would have higher business taxes, higher operational costs, and more complex regulations.

@cx 10000000%. I love Portland (don't live there anymore), but I've been saying for 4 years that the #1 thing that Nike needs to do to secure a bright future is move the HQ to LA over time. As much as I love Portland, its too laid back and not a business-friendly culture. Wish I was wrong becuase I do love it, but it is what it is..

It’s quite well known that the Portland area is a hub for purple-haired performative activists who protest about everything. Also… women who don’t shave their armpits because “feminism”
