Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Pointless meetings

Most of the time the same thing is getting rehashed again and again. The worst part is that I have more than enough work I have to finish but for some reason, I have to attend these meetings that never produce anything useful. No wonder Honeywell is so fu---d up.

An excessive amount of pointless meetings are often the result of having too many useless managers, or incompetent managers ... or both.

Managers who are on the payroll yet who have little to nothing to do will often try to book meetings to fill up their schedule to make themselves look productive in an attempt to justify their paycheck.

Managers who are incompetent on the other hand are those who lack the knowledge, experience, and skillset that is necessary to be an effective leader without being an undue burden on everyone else. Incompetent managers often need to resort to micromanaging and seemingly pointless meetings because they literally don't know whats going on and they don't have any other way to figure it out without making everyone miserable.

God help you if you happen to have a manager that belongs to both categories. Its like trying to swim with bags of lead weights attached to your ankles...

If you have work to do, you can finish it during the meeting. If you have to attend the meeting in person, then don’t go and instead finish your work.

Why you have to complain about something so simple?. Stop whining and work.

In 2020, they were taking volunteers for the first round of COVID layoffs. I took the offer and got a decent little severance package. It's now 2023, and I haven't looked back. So happy I took the offer. I now make 80% more than I made at Honeywell (yes, you read that correctly), and actually enjoy my job. I am physically, mentally, and spiritually a healthier person. That place was a poisonous pit. There are companies out there that are so much better. Don't sell yourself short. Don't stay out of fear. For those who are willing to take the risk, the rewards are worth it!

Yep. I used to make sure I call in on time, etc. But nowadays, there are double or triple booked time, even during lunch time. So no need to attend all of them, but the one you host :-)
Worst is most meetings don't even have an agenda. So just blah blah blah. Time waster. But it is a way for some to show they are 'doing' something, except all they do is solicit solutions when they cannot come up with any themselves. Sound familiar?

The solution is easy: don't go. They'll get used to it. I have found that 99% of meetings should be emails, especially when I worked at Honeywell.

You know when a company or programs are in trouble when all they do is create meetings. This place is the WORST from my experience.
