Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Fearlayoff

Sometimes, managers facing uncertainty about their own roles may make employee layoff decisions in an effort to protect their position, although the reasons for layoffs are often complex and vary by organization.

Too many managers & directors circlej--king each other all day. Not enough people in the trenches.

Marking team members lower on a stack rank doesn’t do anything to protect the manager. If anything, an eagerness to rank your team members lowly reflects poorly on you as a manager -> increasing the likelihood that you will be ranked lowly yourself because you’re not any good at developing your team and advocating for them.

On the other hand: I’ve given up team members (to another team) in order to help keep my team lean. Those team members are always sought after though. Managers are fighting over them.

@a9 so you were targeted and unfortunately you were RIFed due to your Manager taking all of your workload whereby then you were victimized???

My Manager did that to me, as she's done it before. Got rid of me to protect her own position and took on my workload. Luckily, I sort of knew it was coming, so took my foot off the pedal a few months before. Glad to hear she is now extremely busy and feeling the stress. Karma.

@OP need to write more clearly? do not understand? are you currently in management? or are you attributing the manager to their rank-and-file for RIF preparedness?
