Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Can you apply to AT&T after being surplussed?

Just curious can you apply to AT&T after being surplussed? Or are the doors likely closed forever from this company. I feel like out off all of the candidates out there you would be best positioned to re-enter AT&T given how much specialized telecommunications knowledge you would have about fiber and wireless.

@a4 You are correct-
"its likely you were in the wrong zip code, overpaid, too old, and too white. unless that has changed it is unlikely you would be hired back."

I was a constant top sales performer for 7+ years with no write ups and good mid-year and annual reviews however I met 3 of the 4 criteria you outlined-guess which ones, and was let go ahead of lower performing sellers in my org.

Walter’s team under Castro layed off lots of L1 managers and are hiring L2 managers. So try for one of those jobs. Good luck - they’re all L2s so I couldn’t apply bc Inwas an L1 that got layed off and knew they wouldn’t consider me :(

But God bless if you can get one of them
Good Luck

The only reason to return is if you can’t find anything else. Not worth it. I returned after one layoff and got caught in another. There is life outside of AT&T.

Yes, you can apply, and by law the company must accept your application.

Why would you go back to an abuser in a relationship?

It’s like Stockholm Syndrome. Take the severance and find a role with a better company. You’ll thank yourself down the road. It may be daunting and take some time but it’s worth it for your mental and financial well-being.

Try https://forgedfiber37.com/ - T’s wholly owned subsidiary

You received the lowest rankings in your department and were identified as dead weight at time of surplus. It unlikely you will be considered for a new position.

Shoot no, we hired a guy back to an adjacent team just a couple of months ago that was laid off from my team in 2024. Unless you are fired for cause you can get hired back. That is just the kind of incompetent AT&T is, they will lay off people with openings posted in the same org.

If you return before the term of your severance, you will have to pay that portion back. Also, there's a footnote in the current severance package that, if rehired, your tenure will start over in regards to the severance. Your service will probably be bridged, but it will not count toward the severance when you get picked again in six months.

todays game of troll or person who doesn't read this site.

This site would have you believe that people who have left AT&T (or remain at AT&T) have zero skills whatsoever.

read your severance agreement. You likely cant come back for a period of time without paying that back.

Additionally, its likely you were in the wrong zip code, overpaid, too old, and too white. unless that has changed it is unlikely you would be hired back.

Probably a wire tech / prem tech position. They usually hire for those positions due to high turnover. You may be required to stay in that title for a couple years before bidding on a better job.

If they wanted you, they wouldn't have shown you the door.
