Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Laid off from nike a few months ago. the layoff wasn’t even the part that hurt

I actually believed the “nike family” thing. treated coworkers like friend not just people i clocked in with..that’s on me for being naive i guess but the people who still have jobs there? spineless. i sat next to these people for years covered for them more times than i can count. the second i got laid off i became invisible. No “hey that su-ks.” just silence, one text is all it would have taken

During my last few weeks all anyone wanted was KT. drain everything useful out of me then go quiet the moment h i’m not needed anymore. Tried reaching out for referrals after people i’d helped before. suddenly everyone’s “already used up their referrals.” people still there just saw my messages on linkedin and said nothing not even a polite no

Funny how the ones who actually had a soul already left that company on their own. the ones still sitting in those seats are just the ones who don’t mind stepping over people to stay comfortable

Again not mad about the layoff i’m done pretending the people who stayed behind are good people. they’re not. they just haven’t been laid off yet..

You're not wrong. I'm sorry the curtains got pulled back and you saw the miserable state of the people you thought cared - everyone at Nike is a kool-aid drinking fool who are dishonest with themselves and those around them. It is sad. Hang in there! You have to start over, but there are worse things. Celebrate being alive and start again - and don't be like all those Nike people. Care about other humans, be a servant leader (the only kind of leadership), and remain humble and generous. Be the kind of friend you wish you had. Infinite mindset.

To combine BX+1 and DD+1 points. So you would have been part of layoff no 7 since Covid. So the prior 6 layoffs did you reach out and get together with all your friends who were laid off to help them through that time? Or are you upset you are realizing you are not the main character?

Did you reach out and connect with people who were laid off in earlier rounds prior to ou getting the boot?

This is the same at all companies. Nike just force feeds you cool aid about how great sport and campus and perks and running is so great, so they can pay you less. Honestly no one notices anything that nike does, and you'll realize that once you leave the berm. Look at this world cup, it is nothing but adidas everywhere.

I think after Covid, things changed for a lot of people. I use to care a lot about my coworkers but after seeing so many get let go over the years, I basically become numb the moment I find out they get laid off.

What? We've had like 6-7 layoffs in the past 5 years. At this point its every man and woman for themselves. Its not backstabbing but just figuring out if your apart of the future plan or not. I use to love hanging out with my coworkers all the time outside of work and at work, now its just does this matter anymore?

That is Nike true strength. Trick into believing your family then drop
You like a rock.

OP were you friends with these people outside of work? If not why are you expecting something more than ever was? Your situation changes dramatically if people you saw regularly on your own time ghosted you, but if your relationship never extended deeper than 'we're at work together' why are you looking for more than ever was in the first place?

Just trying to be blunt with you. The situation su-ks, no one is good with it, and if you reach out to people to connect I am sure they will reach back. Just know this comes across (and you're not the first one) like begging for someone else's initiative.

The sooner people realize the culty family bullsh-t is just that, the better. Make friends, or don't. Leave work at work, including the people.

What you experienced at Nike before your last day proves. Nike is full of nothing but fake cold-hearted people.

Rule for workplace friends unless they were your friend before joining the company or you hang out outside of work doing activities that have nothing to do with the company it is just a friendship of convenience cause how much time is spent with each other.
