The size and scope of layoffs

Does anyone have any idea about the size and scope of the upcoming layoffs?

The weeks of pay for termination is based on eliminating the job title and/or business unit. A reduction in workforce (surplus) does not apply. What does apply in most cases is when a surplus is declared for your job title in the effected group a SIPP is offered to those who voluntarily leave rather than being forced. Top down on voluntary, bottom up on layoff. Last check for district 4, $33k.

You know what, that last post in response to what I said clarifies it all. I respect what you said and confused you with the guy that keeps spouting the 5/5/5 offer coming in March. My apology to you and I hope you get what you're expecting to in March! That would certainly be something!

To the name calling mo--n: My reference to "many of us" is specifically talking about those of us with over 31 years and we fully know our contract word for word. My saying 2 year package for getting laid off (which is what many in my work group are expecting to likely happen 3/15) is indeed the 104 weeks pay per our contract plus 5 weeks vacation if we haven't already taken it. I am not saying, nor have I ever said anything about offers above and beyond the contract because we do not believe that will happen. Perhaps it is you who is the biggest db.

You are the biggest douche bag on this entire site propagating a rumor that couldn't be further from the truth! THERE WILL BE NO OFFER! If you get laid off and your contract provides for 104 weeks of severance, then you'll get it. The problem is, though, you need to have 31 years or more of service to be entitled to that amount. With 31 years or more of service, your seniority is not at risk, so chances are you will not be receiving this because there will be no offers to senior technicians!

My crystal ball clearly shows many of us receiving a 2 year package on 3/15 per the terms of our contract for being laid off. Some of us who haven't yet taken any vacation time this year will actually get 109 weeks pay celebrating retirement. After that pay runs out, we'll collect our pensions and 401K payouts. Good times ahead.

its fairly cut and dry. stephenson said he wanted total head count at 100k. we had 200k total at that time. the cfo just released statement saying that $6 billion in cost savings is in effect. he specifically singled out legacy systems such as adsl. $6 billion is about the number of employee layoffs left to get to 100k plus the decomm of legacy equipment and plant.

if you have upgraded to a new phone recently then you can understand why they wouldnt need as many mobility service reps. AI will ki-l most jobs.

Already was, we used to do video also. Then DTV, Time Warner, Xander, and POTS.

My bad. Should have clarified prior to these failed acquisitions

“ I really can’t imagine a scenario where this company continues on in its present form. I have to believe at some point it’s quite possible entire business units will be sold off and or outsourced on a much larger scale then what have seen previously. Hope I’m wrong though”

Does anyone know when we get paid our yearly bonus? I’m a new VP and was wanting to renovate my kitchen so I can post videos cooking like my peers. I am embarrassed of my current kitchen.

Your crystal ball is a little muddied up and providing false information! There isn't going to be a 2 year offer. You will, however, get it if you're laid off and it's within the scope of your contract to receive that severance pay of 104 weeks. Otherwise, there will be NO offers for technicians to leave the company voluntarily, only involuntarily!

" My money is on 15-20 percent in management..."

This is way too generic, as always they will not be spread evenly out among all of the different organizations. It may be that high in some but in others there won't be any.

Once layoffs begin they never stop. The leadership team has an insatiable appetite for cutting costs. The biggest expense is labor, that's why they choose layoffs over other expense cutting.

Can anyone explain what a 5 5 5 is. I assume we won't get it by the number of downvotes that comment always gets. I'm just confused about what it is.

Actual percentages and numbers for this month are still being worked out. It will vary by divisions and management levels , expect 5-10% low level supporting orgs , higher for some less visible ones...

My money is on 15-20 percent in management, but others I work with assume higher. I left 12/30 , but i have many friends left at T. I hope for the best but it sounds like a blood bath.

It’s a 5-5-5 offer. Depends how many people take it.

No one can answer that question here. What is an absolute fact though is they will never stop declaring surplus at regular intervals. They have no other way to keep the business afloat. Leadership is out of ideas to grow revenue and protect employees and shareholders alike. If you believe mobility is the golden goose, think again. Rate plans at competitors are nearing half our cost and we couldn’t even afford to bid in the last spectrum auction. This says it all folks, have a plan b, you’ll need it sooner or later.
