Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

RTO never made sense for any other reason than to get people to voluntarily quit

I know of no one that has ever been written up or chastised for not coming to the office though. If you are an individual contributor you did your job fine during COVID and there is virtually no reason for you to come into the office anymore. I mean the office is louder, more chaotic, food is as expensive as anywhere else. People are more likely to stand around and socialize than do actual work. The commute time of the individual gets baked into the work day more often than not because they only have so many hours before they need to take care of the household. It is abhorrently inefficient. To top it all off very few teams are fully located in one office. So you are effectively coming in to simply jump on conference calls with teams from all over the world literally. I can understand a once a week requirement just because we are social animals and there is genuine need for socialization with one another. Outside of once a week though it is strictly suboptimal working conditions. Also just imagine the savings if VZ truly sold off all its offices and cancelled all leases.

Perfectly stated, @jb+1kv47wr3d.

I’ve been WFH since 2020. Probably do 4 hour of work a week at most. Not gonna lie, i wouldn’t be surprised if I get axed.

Rto is yet another in a long list of huge achievements for Verizon. The consistency, the commitment, and the enforcement across the enterprise is culture OS at its best! You know when a company does something as easy as consistent RTO policy/enforcement as well as Verizon, the sky is truly the limit for what we can achieve - together! I believe in our leaders and the world class culture they have built.

WFH should be mandatory to cut costs and boost the stock to 100.

LOL at all these people saying to stop whining about RTO. It's pretty ironic that a company that sells wireless communication devices needs people to be physically present when they have no assigned desks, workspaces, and are forced to put all their personal items into a single filing cabinet drawer. VZ is a joke.

@ac AT&T is the worst at customer service and their network su-ks donkey ba--s. They should file for bankruptcy and sell off their assets to other carriers.

How else would they justify all the costs associated with the unneeded offices around the country?

On it's own I have no problem with RTO.

I do have a major problem with seeing coworkers of mine forced to change offices adding 2.5+ hours to their daily commute while others are granted WFH permanently in other locations.

Meanwhile AT&T is the office 5 days a week. Verizon should do the same and see how many will voluntarily quit.

@OP I got a Job and I work 5 days a week....from anywhere as long as I have a Job and I can show my work done accordingly!...stop with this BS....you should worry about bigger issues and there are lots of them right now.

this is true I’ve never seen anyone disciplined for this. But I did see plenty of really good people leave because of the “mandate“ aside from this. It has also really affected hiring. They are choosing to severely limit their hiring pool to a couple of hubs.

Still crying about having to go to the office? What’s the matter, can’t take those naps in bed or run to the gym anymore?

This is the last thing I want to cry about. All other companies have much worse back to work policies.

I go into the office - which is kinda creepy now - and what amazes me is the efforts to formulate an office like it was in 2019. An office that does not exist anymore. Instead of leveraging that for mutual benefits, it seems very focused on a logic that I don't understand.
