I've noticed that layoffs only get announced if the affected group leaks it. Otherwise they just pretend it didn't happen. It's absurd.

They are terrified of the WARN act and the media. Just as the government pretends everything is wonderful with the economy and job market when it is awful, image is everything: appearance matters.
