What is the reason for the holdup? This is for a corporate white collar role.

@fq legal implications? For something that is completely voluntary?
Sounds like there are a number of individuals who have been dragged on unreasonably long just waiting to hear back.
Are there any legal implications here?
@a2 I did. Not sure how often you’re applying right now, but recruiters rarely reply. I was once given 12 hours to reply and then they didn’t respond back for 2 weeks.
Same scenario with me. I was told I was the finalist. That was two months ago.
@d6 Thanks for the insider information. This explains why it has been dragging on for so long.
What is the job title? I'm in the same predicament covering the same timeline.
Last year a couple of hiring managers with open positions were actively recruiting and got all the way to making an offer. Then they were told to pause all recruiting/hiring activity with the explanation that there's a new executive approval process of all hiring or something like that. It was called "deliberate hiring" as if new employees would otherwise magically appear for orientation. Budget, headcount, and open requisitions are carefully managed, so getting this far in the process only to stop is unusual.
In this case, there was executive knowledge of an upcoming reorg and staff reduction. AVP and below were not in the loop. After a couple of months, an announcement was made. All open positions were immediately closed, active candidates were rejected, and if not mistaken, one open offer was rescinded.
The hiring process is ridiculously long. If you get another offer while waiting, I would jump on it... especially in this job market.
@a1 Not an explicit "no" either verbally or on the job portal site. I am in touch with the recruiter every 3 weeks and judging from the corporate lingo the recruiter used in an email, I am still under consideration.
It is just that the overall process has dragged on since the first quarter of 2026.
Is there a freeze that you guys may be aware of?
Gee, if only there were a way you could follow up with them and ask...
Did they say you are still in the running or have they just not formally said "no"? A lot of corporate jobs aren't telling people "no" these days. It's frustrating and wrong.
